JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Football Coach/Defense is a temporary assignment through the end of the FY24 fiscal academic year and is responsible for assisting the Head Football Coach in the planning, promotion, and administration of a quality Division II Football program. The Assistant Football Coach/Defense may also hold a secondary assignment which will be based on the needs of the Lincoln University Athletic Department and the Football Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans, promotes and administers a quality Division II Football program.
• Serve as recruiting coordinator
• Assist in managing all aspects of installing the defensive game plan.
• Develops a strong recruiting base of top-quality student-athletes.
• Maintains Football records.
• Displays effective on-field teaching and coaching methods.
• Schedules and maintains equipment.
• Monitors student-athletes in academics, athletics, and personal matters.
• Maintains a competitive Division II schedule, by adhering to NCAA best practices.
• As prescribed by the Head Coach and funding permits, will conduct summer football camp programs at Lincoln.
• In coordination with the Head Coach and the Director of Athletics, conducts fund-raising campaigns and maintains good community relations.
• Maintain a football player graduation rate and retention rate similar to those of the general student body.
• Will assume additional work responsibilities within the Athletic Department as directed by the Director of Athletics.
• Will recruit and retain student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA and University rules and guidelines.
• Will adhere to all policies and procedures of Lincoln University, the NCAA and those contained in the Lincoln University Coaches Manual.
• Will work with appropriate University offices and officials to make sure that all football student-athletes adhere to all academic, social and disciplinary policies of the University.
• All other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's Degree required.

EXPERIENCE:

• Two to five years of successful football coaching experience at the college level.
• College coaching experience with the NCAA, NAIA or NCJAA preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated history of college/athletic fundraising preferred.
• Must have proven success in coaching the sport of football as a Defensive coach on the college level. Must be able to and have an understanding of the process of providing scholarships to young athletically skilled athletes and able to articulate that process.
• Must be able to fund raise and demonstrate a history of fundraising in a manner designed to help support and supplement the Football program.
• Must be able to show proof of a personal history of recruiting skilled athletes.
• Must have the ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a throughout understanding of the NCAA rules and regulations.
• Must show a demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with people from varied social, educational, and economic backgrounds.
• Must be able to work without constant supervision, make decisions, and have good judgment.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize events and assignments.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
• Must be mature, dependable, and have a willingness to help others, and serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work. Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
