Job Description Summary

The Assistant Football Coach, Defensive Assistant will assist the Head Coach in teaching/coaching student-athletes all aspects of the sport in a manner that supports the quality and integrity of the program and the overall mission of Bentley University.

Essential Duties

  • Assists with all aspects of the defense, playbook, opponent scouting reports, depth charts, daily practice plans, player evaluations, self-scout, and development.
  • Breaks down and analyzes all defensive and special teams coaching strategies for opponents.
  • Implements defensive principles, studies the opponent game film while game planning and installing game plans.
  • Evaluates athletes’ skills and review performance to determine the strengths and weaknesses of that week’s opponent.
  • Assists in planning coaching and practice sessions in accordance withNCAAregulations.
  • Acts as counsel /mentor to assigned student-athletes, focusing on academic, athletic and personal areas. Identifies and recruits prospective student-athletes, in accordance with Bentley University academic standards and NCAA Div. II regulations.
  • Provides scouting reports that detail player assessments and offers recommendations on athlete recruitment priorities. Monitors the academic eligibility of prospective student-athletes, ensuring the academic integrity of Bentley University is maintained in the acceptance of recruited student-athletes.
  • In direct planning with the Head Coach, assists in developing and executing successful recruiting strategies to meet the recruitment and retention goals set by Bentley University.
  • Monitors the academic eligibility of current student-athletes to ensure progress toward earning a degree in a defined academic program.
  • Manages and coordinates daily operations of the full and part-time assistant defensive coaches. Keeps up to date regarding changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to NCAA rules and changes concerning football and recruiting.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism and integrity on and off the field with student-athletes, the coaching staff, parents of student-athletes, staff members of the Athletic Department, University Administrators, and members of the community.
