Job Summary

The Defensive Coordinator also plays a key role in student-athlete academic success, compliance with NCAA and conference regulations, and day-to-day football operations.

Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

Coaching & Defensive Leadership

• Design, implement, and lead the defensive scheme, including philosophy, terminology, game plans, and play-calling.
• Plan and organize daily defensive practice sessions and game preparation for championship and non-championship segments.
• Lead, supervise, and evaluate defensive position coaches, graduate assistants, interns, managers, and/or work-study students.
• Support and execute the overall goals, standards, and culture of the football program.
• Promote sportsmanship, professionalism, and accountability through daily leadership and conduct.

Recruiting & Player Development

• Lead and assist with recruiting prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, SIAC, University System of Georgia, and Albany State University policies.
• Assist with tracking admissions, eligibility, and roster management for recruited student-athletes.
• Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress in coordination with compliance and academic support staff.
• Demonstrate consistent concern for the overall welfare, development, and success of student-athletes.

Administration & Operations

• Assist, if assigned, with managing the program's budget and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
• Assist with coordinating team and recruiting travel in compliance with institutional and governing body regulations.
• Assist with equipment ordering, inventory, and supply management in coordination with athletic administration.
• Work collaboratively with the Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to all NCAA, SIAC, USG, and institutional rules.
• Assist with facilities oversight or game management duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
• Engage regularly with athletic training and sports medicine staff to promote student-athlete health, safety, and wellness.

Engagement & Advancement

• Assist with camps, clinics, promotional activities, fundraising initiatives, and public relations efforts for the football program and Department of Athletics.
• Participate in departmental and institutional community engagement activities.
• Attend and participate in required conference meetings, events, and championships.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree. 

Minimum of two (2) years of collegiate, professional, or high-level coaching or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree. 

Defensive coordinator or defensive leadership experience at the collegiate level.

Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) rules and regulations.

Knowledge of NCAA sport specific rules and regulations.

In-depth knowledge of football defensive systems and techniques.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate, develop and mentor student-athletes.

Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative coaching and administrative team.

Ability to develop and execute plans aligned with program, department and institutional goals.

Proficiency with computers and job-related software applications.

Ability to provide timely and accurate information as requested by stakeholders.
