The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all management aspects of his/her team. The Assistant Coach must assist the Head Coach with practice, games and recruitment of players each season in accordance with University and NAIA rules and regulations. He/She will coordinate the practice and game situations for the defensive side of the ball. The Defensive Coordinator will run meetings for defensive staff. Assistant Coaches must make prospective student-athletes aware of all policies and procedures in the University Regulations and the Athletic Handbook.
Instructing student-athletes in all aspects of the sport and establishing adherence guidelines associated with NAIA Mid-South conference rules as well as the University’s policies
Instruction/establishment of comprehensive safety method and standards for student-athletes
Research and preparation of academic teaching methodology relating to sport
Assist with the coordination, planning and development of the sport program
Leading and monitoring both training and practice sessions
Develop and maintain effective interaction with students, staff, alumni, parents, etc.
Mentoring and supporting each student-athlete to maximize their academic success
Review of films to continually improve the success of the program
Evaluate players’ strengths and weaknesses
Ensure that injured players receive appropriate care
Schedule games and practices seeking to minimize scheduling conflicts as much as practicable and to maximize fan participation to the extent possible
Attend all practices having a clear and organized practice plan
Transport the team to away contests, by either driving or having a driver arranged
Assist in managing the team budget
Assist in managing team fundraising efforts
Attend all coaches meetings
Assist in handling all aspects of camps and clinics offered
Consistently communicate with the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director regarding matters related to the program when necessary
Consistently communicate with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Athletic Director regarding all eligibility and scholarship offers when necessary
Assist in managing all recruiting, practice, and travel forms
Assist in managing game day operations
Adhere to the Athletic Department’s Regulations
Adhere to and promote the University and the Athletic Department mission, philosophy, and objectives
Adhere to and promote University policy and all respects
General maintenance to the fields, weight rooms and gyms, which may require lifting or moving of equipment weighing 50 pounds
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
This is a twelve month position reporting to the Head Coach and Athletic Director. The Assistant Coach must have a strong commitment to Athletics and exceptional independent judgment, problem solving, planning skills, and the ability to effectively motivate student-athletes. The Assistant Coach must have the knowledge to teach the sport and the ability to recruit. The Assistant Coach must display professionalism in all aspects of the position.
1-3 years of college coaching experience preferred
Proficient in using HUDL
Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
Requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing.
Work is conducted in a high-paced and very stressful environment. Assistant Coaches are generally in high-profile positions.
