Job Description:
Responsible for assisting the head football coach with managing daily administrative and coaching duties of the football program while adhering to Bowie State University (BSU), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association regulations and policies (CIAA). Assist the athletic department in fundraising and public relations programs. Assist with the recruitment of prospective student athletes. Demonstrate excellent professional and interpersonal communication skills with students, alumni, staff, administration, media, and the general public. Assist the head coach with the development of a quality coaching staff that adheres to all regulations and guiding principles and policies of BSU, the NCAA, and the CIAA. Emphasis must be on the educational welfare of the student-athlete while striving for excellence within the institution’s mission and in the field of competition. Must always demonstrate and maintain a high level of sportsmanship.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
All staff members have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, the conference office or the institution with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations.
A football coach or staff member may be suspended or terminated if found to be involved in deliberate and serious violations of NCAA of CIAA regulations.
Ensure all student-athletes are in “good-standing” with all BSU, NCAA, and CIAA rules and regulations. Review rules with all student-athletes, monitor academic athletic progress, providing counseling when necessary. Assist in academic scheduling, when necessary, inform and ensure student-athletes participate in all
department sponsored functions. Maintain accurate records of student-athlete’s performance and any disciplinary issues. Ensure all student athletes comply with institutional financial aid regulations.
Responsibilities include: organizing and administering team program and activities (such as in-season and off-season practices); coaching, scouting, and recruiting; managing academic success; advising and counseling student-athletes with registration requirements; promoting the football program and participating in fund raising activities; and other duties as assigned by the head football coach.
The Assistant Football Coach will be responsible for assisting with the football program and must be able to interact with students, faculty, and staff within the framework of Bowie State University, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the Nation Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II regulations.
MININIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree desired. Knowledge of CIAA, NCAA, and University rules and regulations. 3 years of coaching experience on the high school or collegiate level.
Evenings, weekends, and travel required.
