Position Summary:

The School of Aviation seeks applicants for flight instructor positions in SIU Carbondale's Aviation Flight program. These are term, non-tenure track faculty appointments.

Flight instructors are hired based on the needs of our flight program. Applications are continually evaluated throughout the year, with the first review beginning July 1, 2023.  Because our needs can change quickly, having an application completed and available for review is beneficial.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To provide individual flight instruction to students enrolled in Aviation flight courses, including preflight/post-flight inspections as well as maintaining the training records of assigned students.
• To assist faculty as needed in teaching aeronautical and aircraft systems classes leading to FAA Pilot Certificates and Ratings.
• To engage in other duties as determined by the Chief Flight Instructor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating
• FAA Certified Flight Instructor-Airplane Certificate (CFI)

Official academic transcripts must be received prior to date of hire.

Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument Airplane Certificate required (CFII) within four months from date of hire. Cannot be “Instructor of Record” for any Aviation class until CFII is earned.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CFII at time of application
• FAR 141 experience within a University flight program
• Master’s degree
