Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf is to play an integral role in the effective operation of the golf programs, develop young men and women in the North Central College golf philosophy, to help direct all aspects of the overall golf program strategy including developing and retaining student-athletes. The assistant golf coach will also work with the Senior Director and Associate Director of Athletics helping further develop, implement, and evaluate components of departmental athletic events and leadership programs.
Description of Key Responsibilities
Assist in development, recruitment, and support of a highly competitive men’s and women’s golf programs, consistent with the student-athlete philosophy of Division III, which generates College and community enthusiasm and support.2. Design and implement golf specific programs in‐season, off‐season, and pre‐season for all event areas in a manner that reflects research‐driven practices. Supervision of student athletes. Work in conjunction with other coaches to develop technique and skill training plans.3. Develop practice and competition preparations, in conjunction with the entire coaching staff, by analyzing and designing strategies, communicating with the golfers in the techinque area and writing reports.4. Develop and implement an on-going professional development plan as it relates to golf in general, wellness, nutrition, and overall strength and conditioning5. Act as the secondary supervisor for a student-worker and/or team manager.6. Participate in any marketing and promotional activities for the golf programs as assigned by the head men’s and women’s golf coach.7. Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement.8. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Specific knowledge of golf theory and technique. Advanced knowledge of conducting a high-quality practice and competition plans and programs. This includes an overall wellness component plus a team and individualized nutrition plan.2. Skill in communicating with college student-athletes, their parents and other coaching professionals. Ability to effectively recruit qualified student-athletes. Ability to effectively counsel and advise prospective students and their parents regarding numerous aspects of the College. Ability to exercise the proper balance of persistence and patience as individually appropriate to each contact.3. Strong commitment to a small college environment. Extensive knowledge of the organization and operation of the College, both administratively and academically, especially regarding admission-related activities. Up-to-date knowledge of developments in higher education in general and at schools with which North Central College traditionally competes for new students.4. Ability to develop successful programs which engage student-athletes and coaches in developing student-athlete leaders.5. Ability to deal with several tasks and work with a large number of individuals concurrently, often without direct supervision. This requires a person who is well organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to effectively prioritize tasks.6. Ability to communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including direction of and participation in the development of high-quality publications which reflect positively on North Central College.7. Ability to consistently demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the College, both on the telephone and in person.8. Ability to work as an effective member of a team. Commitment to an environment that nurtures cooperation, teamwork, and diversity.9. Ability to serve as a role model and professional coach for prospective recruits, current students, staff, parents, and fans.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The assistant golf coach must be able to effectively instruct and develop detailed operational plans as they relate to strength and conditioning, operate within fiscal boundaries, develop and maintain relationships with student athletes, parents, fans, and campus faculty/staff. The assistant golf coach must also be able to creatively and effectively develop strategies and programming that will allow student athletes to reach their full potential in golf and as students. The primary focus is on the wellness, nutrition, strength and conditioning of the players.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience
1-3 years related experience, specifically in the field of golf instruction.
Licenses or Certifications
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
