Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

The Assistant Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Basketball Coach with all facets of the program; to include organization, development, recruiting, and leadership of a highly competitive Division Il basketball program in support of the mission and core values of Tuskegee University. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach supporting the Head Coach by coaching student athletes, recruiting, monitoring student athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel and scholarships and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student athlete.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Recruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions. Participate in recruitment and designation of scholarship athletes
Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with
NCAA
and Conference regulations
Coach team members individually and in groups; and demonstrate game techniques. May manage a designated skill development area or group of positions
Develop and recommend game strategy and position assignments
Monitor the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies, including accountability for expense control and administration of the sport’s budget
Coordinate with the Athletic Business Office the planning of recruiting and team travel
Participate in the selection and fitting of team equipment
Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing
Ensure adherence to all Association, Conference, and University rules by athletes and supporting staff
Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed
Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program
Provides reports and documentation hen required by the Director of Athletics and/or the Head Men’s Basketball Coach
Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Bachelor’s degree
One year of experience as a head coach or assistant college at the collegiate level
Experience in recruiting
Working knowledge of
NCAA
rules and regulations
Physical:
Sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and operate office equipment. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasional and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, bending, moving, lifting or handle. Ability to stand for at least five hours and exposure to high noise levels. Physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.
Vision:
See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents
Hearing:
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed under limited supervision on a basketball court, classroom or office setting with appropriate climate control. Travel, early morning, evening and weekend work is required. Maybe exposed to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations
Ability to communicate (verbally and written), concentrate, understand verbal instructions, reason, analyze, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, compute, and maintain emotional control
Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment
Ability to recruit and retain qualified student-athletes for a competitive program
Able to effectively handle confidential and proprietary information
