SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the management of the soccer program including development of a position group, recruitment of qualified prospective student-athletes, travel planning, scouting opponents, academic supervision, field maintenance and other daily projects as assigned by the Head Coach. HSU is a member of NCAA Division III and the American Southwest Conference. This is a part-time/seasonal staff position.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These examples do not include all possible tasks & do not limit the assignment of related tasks.
On field practice and game assistance.
Prepare scouting reports.
Evaluate student-athletes through camps tournaments and showcases.
Assist with game day decisions.
Help the head coach coordinate practices and develop a position group.
Assist with marketing and fundraising efforts for the program.
Supervise graduate assistant and student helpers.
Oversee the student-athlete academic progress through study hall and academic resources.
Equipment duties such as organization, laundry, etc.
Perform duties to maintain the soccer facility.
Encourage young players to grow in their faith while demonstrating positive Christian ideals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Three or four recruiting trips per year to identify talent.
Attend practices. Help coach the field players. Coach the field players on individual technique issues. Ensure players understand game plans, strategies and tactics and answer any questions they may have.
Drive a van when we take a road trip that requires 3 vans. An essential element for our team safety as we need drivers of a certain age.
Help with pre-game and post-game meals on the road trips.
Set up equipment required to conduct practice sessions.
Work cooperatively with the local soccer community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.
Seek opportunities to increase job skills and knowledge.
Exhibit compassion and kindness to all campus community in actions and words.
Be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, make judgements, and solve problems.
Exhibit trustworthiness and honesty in work and interactions with coaching staff, campus employees, and student athletes.
Always work to improve character skills such as, hard work, patience, courage, etc. and integrate a Christian perspective into their work, while encouraging student athletes to do the same.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisor responsibilities except oversight of student workers including: the graduate student worker/graduate assistant coach and student assistant (if applicable).

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
Prefer soccer coaching or playing experience at the high school and/or college level.
Previous recruiting experience with evaluation, relationship building, and recruitment of student-athletes is preferred.
Must have proficient computer skills, strong work ethic and effective communication skills as demonstrated through work previous experience.
Must also have excellent organizational skills. Candidates will be required to provide examples of their ability to plan and organize as demonstrated through previous work experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required (or must be obtained).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a Part-Time/Seasonal Non-Exempt/Hourly Staff Position which will only be scheduled when needed during peak season and/or for recruiting purposes.
This position will typically be less than 19 hours per week (scheduled as needed).
Occasional overnight travel is required, including evenings and weekends, especially during soccer season and recruiting season.
Occasionally holiday work is also required depending on game/practice schedule.
Additional travel may be required on occasion to attend trainings or workshops.
All hours worked beyond 40 hours in a single work week will be compensated at time and a half, per FLSA guidelines
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
