Job Summary

The Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach assists the Head Men’s Tennis Coach in the daily management of the Men’s Tennis Program. This role is responsible for assisting in the recruitment of prospective student athletes, assisting with on court coaching, serving as a community relations liaison for the Men’s Tennis Program to public and assisting with monitoring the academic progress of student athletes.

Core Responsibilities

1. Assists in recruiting quality student athletes.
2. Assists in conducting practice sessions and be present during strength and conditioning sessions.
3. Assists in establishing training rules for student-athletes and keeping them informed of acceptable standards of conduct.
4. Performs game-day management duties.
5. Assists with developing game schedules and equipment purchases that will allow the men’s tennis teams to stay within their approved budgets.
6. Assists in monitoring satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes.
7. Be knowledgeable of and adherence to NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
8. Monitors the compliance to NCAA and Conference rules and policies by student athletes.
9. Responsible for the execution of effective systems of internal control which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial.
10. Travels as needed to support tournament participation and recruiting activities at the request of the coaching staff.
11. Represents UTSA at American Athletic Conference and national meetings.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Three (3) years of experience as a men’s tennis student athlete or coach.
• This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited university. 
• Five (5) years of experience as a men’s tennis coach in a university setting. 
• Experience playing tennis on the professional circuit.

• Compliance of NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and American Athletic Conference rules and regulations 
• Organizational, Written, and Verbal Communication Skills 
• Independent Judgement 
• Discretion and Flexibility 
• Member of United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). 
• Member of United States Tennis Association (USTA). 

Working Conditions

• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. 

Physical Demands

• Physical activity in the sport of Men’s Tennis. Weekend and evening hours and travel required. 

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
