The Assistant Men’s & Women’s Cross/Track & Field Coach will serve in all phases of a competitive cross/track program in accordance with the
NCAA
, Southland Conference, and University of the Incarnate Word policies and procedures, and will be expected to work cooperatively with all constituencies and campus units. The Assistant Men’s & Women’s Cross/Track & Field Coach reports to the Head Men and Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Coach.

Job Duties

- Coach all open throwing events (shot put, discus, hammer and javelin as well as indoor shot and weight throw).
- Recruit all open throwers. Establish recruiting connections throughout the state of Texas.
- Coach all combined event throws; assist the combined-events coach in overseeing throwing event training.
- Assist the head coach with all aspects of the team, including training, competing and scheduling.
- Organize and maintain accurate inventory of all throwing event equipment and throws athletes’ uniforms.
- Organize and complete all required paperwork.
- Serve as housing liaison with Office of Residence Life.
- Order and organize all team meals when team is at competition.
- Serve as recruiting coordinator for the track and field program and coordinate on campus recruiting tours. Evaluate high school and junior college student-athletes for purposes of recruiting to UIW.
- Recruit off campus at national AAU and USATF championships, district, regional and state championships and other high school and junior college showcases. Recruiting efforts will require sometimes up to 60% of time associated with this position.
- Assist head cross country coach to direct and coordinate successful home cross country meets.
- Maintain strict adherence to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the University, the Southland Conference and the NCAA.
- Work cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represent the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.

Qualifications
| Knowledge Skills and Abilities |
- Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
- Must have good communication skills necessary to direct recruiting efforts through fall and spring signing periods.
- Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the university, the Southland Conference and the NCAA.
- A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
- Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, via social media and in writing.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to market and promote UIW cross/track & field.
- Willingness to work various hours including weekends, evenings and some holidays.
- Ability to consistency follow the Mission of the University.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Bachelor’s Degree.

| Required Work Experience |
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience competing and/or coaching cross/track & field at the collegiate level.

| Preferred Qualifications |
Masters Degree and Division I collegiate coaching.
|
| Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations |
Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Business hours of Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm with flexibility; extended hours as required, including weekends, evenings and some holidays based on team schedule.
