Essential Functions

Assistant Sports Performance Coach

Job Summary

Assist coaches in all aspects of the annual strength program. Provide professional knowledge, technical expertise, and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.

Responsible for the design, implementation and supervision of yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by immediate supervisor.

Core Responsibilities

1. Assists in all aspects of assigned athletic program/s.
2. Designs, implements and supervises the yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.
3. Aids in supervision to the athletic weight room.
4. Aids in the supervision of graduate assistants, interns, and work-study students.
5. Aids in cleanliness and upkeep of athletic weight room and equipment.
6. Travels with designated sports teams or teams when in-season.
7. Communicates with sports medicine staff daily.
8. Communicates with the sports coach or coaches daily.
9. Attends professional development opportunities as approved by supervisor.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
    

Associate Sports Performance Coach

Job Summary

Assists in all aspects of complex strength and conditioning programs for assigned Olympic sports. Provides professional knowledge, technical expertise, and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.

Responsible for the design, implementation and supervision of yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by immediate supervisor.

Core Responsibilities

1. Assists in all aspects of assigned athletics programs.
2. Serves as a leader in the Sports Performance department.
3. Designs, implements and supervises the yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.
4. Aids in the supervision of the athletic weight room and staff.
5. Assumes role as the internship coordinator and/or assists coordinator (interview and hire interns each semester) as well as work-study coordinator.
6. Aids in internship development program.
7. Assists in oversight of annual budget in conjunction with supervisor.
8. Coordinates weight room schedule with sports coaches' practice times and student-athlete academic schedules.
9. Aids in cleanliness and upkeep of athletic weight room and equipment.
10. Travels with designated sports teams or teams when in-season.
11. Communicates with sports medicine staff daily.
12. Communicates with sports coaches or coaches daily.
13. Attends professional development opportunities as approved by supervisor.
14. Aids in search for new strength and conditioning staff members.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Assistant Sports Performance Coach

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
• USAW certification substitutes for one (1) year of experience.
• CPR and Basic First Aid Certification.
• CSCS or SCCC Certification.
• Two (2) years of experience working at a college/university or with elite-level athletes.

Associate Sports Performance Coach

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
• USAW certification substitutes for one (1) year of experience.
• CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
• CSCS or SCCC Certification.
• Three or more (3+) years of experience working at a college/university or with elite-level athletes.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Assistant Sports Performance Coach

• USA W Level 1 Certification.
• D1 collegiate/professional basketball strength & conditioning coaching experience.

Associate Sports Performance Coach

• Three or more (3+) years of experience working specifically with collegiate/professional basketball student-athletes.

Additional Information

• UTSA is a tobacco free campus.
• This is a security sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.

• Valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as applicable.

Working Conditions

• Ten-to-fourteen-hour days on the floor coaching, on the field coaching, and in the office.
• Travel required with assigned team(s).
• Weekend, holiday, and summer hours are required.

Physical Demands:

• Regularly moderate to high movement and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; responsibilities include extended periods of standing.
• Ability to push, pull, or lift with or without reasonable accommodations.
