Reporting to the Head Coach, Women’s Softball, the Assistant Coach will assist in all aspects of running the softball program, including organization, planning, coaching, teaching, instructing, mentoring and holistic development of student-athletes on and off the field.This position requires the ability to support practice, competition and recruiting schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, as well as frequent travel.
Develops, plans, instructs, and implements the infield and or outfield defensive philosophy through practices, scrimmages, games, drill progressions, body awareness, footwork concepts and throwing patterns. Develops, plans, instructs, and implements the offensive hitting philosophy through practices, scrimmages, games, drill progressions, body awareness and movement concepts. Implements the use of video technology and analysis of hitters’ swings, fielding techniques, footwork, and throwing for further player development. Identifies, evaluates, communicates, tracks, and recruits quality student-athletes in compliance with University, Atlantic 10 and NCAA regulations and policies. Assumes responsibility for administrative functions as assigned. Complies with all NCAA, Atlantic 10 and University rules, and regulations.

Assists in providing counseling and mentoring to student-athletes when appropriate and directs the student-athlete to professional staff when needed. Assists in game management by helping to prepare, communicate, determine and implement the strategies necessary to motivate the team to achieve maximum levels of individual and team performances. Compiles, scout and analyzes opposing teams through video and scouting reports to create an effective offensive plan and defensive strategy for opponents. Assists with the understanding of statistical analysis to further develop student-athletes offensive and defensive abilities. Assists with game day operations, marketing, promotions, planning, organizing and implementation of camps and clinics. Assists with creative content and management of team’s social media platforms. Assists and participates with alumni outreach and fundraising activities and events supporting the program, athletic department, and University. Works collaboratively with all support staff offices within the athletic department and on campus (i.e., Strength/Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Facilities, Marketing, Sports Information, Compliance, Business, Admissions, Financial Aid, etc.). Acts as campus liaison – coordinates, schedules, and communicates all team community and campus engagement and service opportunities. Assists in reservation process of campus facilities and familiarity with campus events and resources. Completes required monthly paperwork, such as Arms, Concur reports, etc. Assists in communication and enforcement of team and program policies regarding student-athlete conduct.
Bachelor’s Degree Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a softball or baseball coach and or instructor or student-athlete or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High level organizational skills and highly motivated. Demonstrated ability, commitment, and motivation for holistic student-athlete development. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with Head Coach, additional coaching and support staff members, student-athletes, colleagues having a range of backgrounds, interests, and perspectives. Strong interpersonal and communication skills Valid U.S. driver’s license – ability to drive rental cars, University owned vehicles (15 passenger van to practices and or games, upon obtaining Ram Van certification) Credentialed, or ability to obtain, certifications in CPR and First Aid.
Master’s Degree. Experience with recruiting and or player development of high-academic prospective student-athletes.
