JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Coach will support the development of Division III student-athletes within the softball program. This position is focused specifically on pitcher training and development. The Pitching Coach is expected to attend practices, games, and team travel events, and to uphold the standards of Gustavus Adolphus College, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), and the NCAA.

Employment Type: Part-time (.13 FTE), Exempt (Salaried), Non-Benefits Eligible

This is a part-time, seasonal position aligned with the collegiate softball calendar. Regular attendance at practices, games, and team travel is expected.

Salary Range: $6,000-$12,000

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide technical instruction, development, and mentorship to pitchers, focusing on skill development, arm care, and game preparation.
• Attend and actively participate in practices and games, including team travel.
• Collaborate with the Head Coach and staff to implement pitching strategies during competition.
• Assist with on-field organization and support during team training sessions.
• Meet with prospective student-athletes on and off campus and work closely with and within the guidelines of Gustavus Admission.
• Contribute to the positive team culture and support the academic and athletic growth of student-athletes.
• Represent the program and College in a professional manner during all official team functions.
• Adhere to and support all Gustavus, MIAC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Prerequisites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Previous pitching or coaching experience at the high school or college level.
• Strong knowledge of pitching mechanics, arm care, and player development strategies.
• Ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with student-athletes and coaching staff.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel with the team as required.
