Cortland’s Associate Sports Information Director plays a vital role in chronicling and promoting one of the strongest programs in
NCAA
Division
III
athletics. The position is responsible for providing game coverage, managing and maintaining statistics and sharing accurate and engaging information about Cortland’s 25 varsity teams with the news media and the public. The
ASID
updates and maintains the university’s athletics website and plays a leading role in its social media promotion. It is an 11-month position.

Serve as primary sports information contact for men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s and women’s ice hockey, wrestling, and men’s and women’s lacrosse, as well as provide secondary coverage for other sports, including baseball, softball, and volleyball. This includes:
Manage game day statistics (tracking statistics for home games, compiling statistics from road games) W
rite game recaps for use online and for the media.
Serve as or oversee public address announcing at home games.
Maintain all aspects of Cortland’s Athletics website, cortlandreddragons.com, and serve as the primary content creator. This includes student-athlete bios, photos, rosters, and records/history.
Produce game programs for most of Cortland’s home athletics contests.
Assist with the creation of effective content for social media accounts, video boards, and marketing materials.
Recruit, train, and supervise students to assist with in-game operations including statistical tracking, and supervise in-office student interns by assigning them various tasks.
Report to Cortland’s conference, the
SUNYAC
, and the
NCAA
, including weekly award nominations for sports in which the assistant director is the primary contact.
Travel when needed to provide publicity for Cortland athletic teams.
Reports to
SUNY
Cortland Sports Information Director. Position is housed in Communications Office within the Division of Institutional Advancement, with funding provided through the Athletics Department.
ASID
collaborates closely with Athletics Department staff daily and frequently
interacts with Communications Office, Alumni Engagement and Development Office
Bachelor’s degree in sport management, communications, or a related field of study.
Experience in collegiate athletic media relations or sports information office or other related field at the college/university level.
Experience in digital media
Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends.
Experience with the following software programs: Genius Sports/
NCAA
Live Stats, Stat Crew, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Word.
Experience with
SIDEARM
Web platform.
Experience managing social media accounts on multiple platforms; experience and knowledge of social networks and social communications; experience with social media best practices, including web writing, photography, video, metadata, tagging, analytics, social media and
SEO
, content strategy and developing strategic social media campaigns.
