Position Description

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Performance, Health and Wellness, the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach/Athletic Scheduling Coordinator will assist in the training and motivation of student-athletes to maximize their potential for athletic performance and injury prevention. The Assistant S/C Coach/ Athletic Scheduling Coordinator will, in conjunction with coaches and athletic trainers, organize and design strength, power, speed, agility and flexibility programs for assigned sports; maintain safety, hygiene, and efficiency of the Fitness Center; create and supervise schedules and team workouts. This position will also be responsible for assisting in the supervision, staffing and management of the campus fitness center and be involved with all campus wellness directives assigned by the Assoc Ad for Performance, Health and Wellness. Additionally, the position will have oversight of the athletic scheduling for the Athletic Department. This role will coordinate, reserve and manage all athletic scheduling of our facilities for team practices, games and athletic events.

Position Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sport specific, scientifically based strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams.
• Have the knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of the NCAA and any conferences of which Eastern University is a member.
• Work cooperatively with coaches and the Sports Medicine staff to plan, organize, implement and supervise successful year-round sport-specific strength training and conditioning programs.
• Stay abreast of all current trends, breakthroughs and developments in the science of nutrition, speed, strength, and conditioning.
• Assist varsity student-athletes with rehabilitation programs prescribed and designed by physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers from the Sports Medicine staff.
• Prepare reports for coaches on progress and testing.
• Assist with the supervision and training of all interns and work study staff as it pertains to the areas of strength and conditioning and fitness center day to day operations.
• Evaluate the needs of the fitness center and make recommendations on the replacement of equipment when necessary.
• Provide leadership and act as direct supervisor to all personnel and cover training sessions when the Director is unavailable.
• Participate in required continuing education and certification programs to fulfill national certification; attends conventions, conferences, and clinics consistent with Department and University policies.
• Present information at various meetings, seminars and special events.
• The Athletic Scheduling Coordinator will have oversight of the Athletic Calendar and will report, input, manage and update all practices, games and events to both the Director of Athletics and the Conferences Office at Eastern.

Qualifications

• Problem Solving:
• Must have the ability to be creative with staffing, budgeting and other unique issues relative to Division III.

• Must have the skill to work with a variety of student-athletes and reach the goal of making them better as people first, and athletes second

• Communication:

• Must have very strong interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must!

• Complexity of Tasks:

• Must have a working understanding of strength and conditioning equipment with the ability to do minor repairs when necessary.

• Leadership Skills:

• Must have the credibility to convince coaches, staff and students that the prescribed work is safe, effective and achievable.

• A strong self image and high confidence levels are a must.

• Initiative/Creativity:

• Because some student-athletes are less enthused about strength and condition work, our coach will need to take the initiative at times to get all athletes involved and committed
