Summary

The Assistant Coach/Director of Operations for Swimming and Diving supports the Director, Swimming & Diving (Head Coach) in all aspects of managing a nationally competitive Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving program. This role includes coaching and recruiting Cadet-athletes, monitoring academic progress, and fostering their development, discipline, and conduct, while also overseeing the planning and execution of team operations and logistics such as travel, scheduling, recruiting visits, event management, and administrative processes. Additionally, the position provides support to the coaching staff and collaborates with Strategic Communications (ACOMM, Social Strategy, and Creative Video) to enhance program visibility, engagement, and storytelling.

Scope of Impact

The responsibilities outlined in this job description are integral to the success of the AWPAA’s Swimming & Diving program and Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. (“AWPAA”). This position has a high level influence in the recruiting, coaching and development of the Swimming & Diving program. This person represents the Swimming & Diving program at all times in public and is willing to support all program needs. Decisions made by this position impact the health and safety of Cadet-athletes and public relations for AWPAA and United States Military Academy (“USMA”). Failure to comply with NCAA rules could result in NCAA violations, negative publicity and harm to recruiting efforts. Decisions associated with designated responsibilities will be made in conjunction with the Director, Swimming & Diving and the designated Sport Administrator. This position will interact with all constituents including but not limited to: USMA Staff, AWPAA Staff, Army Athletic Association (“AAA”) Staff, Association of Graduates (“AOG”) Staff, Coaches, Cadet-athletes, Parents, donors, and the general public.

Level of Decision Making

The position acts as an extension of the Director, Swimming & Diving and has direct access to the Cadet-athletes. The employee must maintain a high level of professionalism, moral and ethical character, and be a role model. This position will have a moderate level of decision making that will most often be exercised in planning/executing travel itineraries for team travel and recruiting visits. In addition, collaborating, establishing, and implementing the strategic plan initiatives, and vision for the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving programs and the Army West Point Athletics Association
