Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Throws Coach and Director of Operations for the Track & Field/Cross Country Program leads the development of the throws group while supporting the overall operations and administration of the program.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Competitive experience in throws or collegiate coaching.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Experience as a relationship-driven recruiter with strong networking skills.

Job Summary

Coaching and Athletic Development

• Leads all aspects of the throws program (shot put, discus, hammer and javelin).
• Designs and implements training programs aligned with conference and NCAA championship performance.
• Provides technical instruction, video analysis and individualized feedback.
• Monitors athlete progress, wellness and academic success.
• Fosters a positive, disciplined and growth-orientated training environment.

Recruiting

• Identify, evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet Winthrop’s academic and athletic standards.
• Builds and maintains recruiting pipelines across high school, transfer portal and international recruiting channels.
• Assists with official/unofficial visits and communication strategies.
• Collaborates with Head Coach on scholarship allocation and roster management.

Director of Operations Responsibilities

• Coordinates itineraries, lodging, meals and transportation for team travel.
• Manages program equipment, inventory and facility needs (throws implements, cages, etc.)
• Assists with meet management and hosting responsibilities.
• Coordinates with the Compliance Office to manage and maintain required compliance documentation.
• Supports purchasing for equipment orders and budget tracking with purchasing cards.
• Assists with scheduling and team logistics.

• Serves as a mentor and role model, promoting personal growth, accountability and leadership.
• Builds meaningful relationships with student-athletes rooted in trust and care.
• Supports student-athletes in academic, athletic and life development.
• Contributes to a championship-level culture centered on excellence, integrity and unity.

Travel/Overtime Requirements

Travel, evening and weekends hours.

Telecommuting

Employees are not eligible for telecommuting/remote work during their 12-month probationary period. After that time, certain positions may be eligible for telecommuting/remote work at the discretion of the supervisor and in accordance with Winthrop policies.
