Position Summary

Walsh University is a member of NCAA Division II that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Track & Field (Throws) Assistant Coach will assist in the teaching and mentoring of team members relative to sport specific skills, NCAA II rules and regulations, individual and team development concepts as well as life skills education. Under the supervision of the Head Coach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Coaching Duties :

• Assists the head coach in managing and directing the program related to throws events.Â
• Assists the head coach with all aspects of the program including, coaching all throws events, practices, player instruction, throws training programs, meet preparation, competing and scheduling
• Assists in the coordination of transportation
• Assists with recruiting throwers and budget responsibilities
• Educates and mentors student athletes in all aspects of their holistic development; mind, body and spirit.
• Recruiting and abiding by NCAA II compliance rules and legislation as well as educating student-athletes about those rules.
• Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletic department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the University in a positive manner when interacting with the community, alumni, coaches, the media and the general public.
• Responsible for knowing, understanding, and abiding by Walsh University policy and procedure and NCAA II compliance legislation and conference rules.
• Failure to comply by Walsh University policy and procedure and NCAA II compliance legislation and conference rules will be grounds for discipline and/or termination.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and the Vice President for Athletics/Athletic Director.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Education : Bachelor's degree is required

Work Experience: Should have experience in track & field throws events, preferably some previous coaching experience.

Skills & Abilities:

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
• Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, Outlook
