Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice President for Marketing, Communications & Advancement, the Assistant Vice President for Advancement collaborates with senior staff, faculty, alumni, board members as well as volunteers to develop and implement initiatives and strategies for successful major gift solicitation and campaign planning and management and execution. This position includes fundraising efforts for the Athletic Department with a goal of closing the expense - revenue gap year over year. This position is responsible for securing the necessary financial and volunteer support to sustain and develop Alabama A&M University.
Responsible for proactively and cooperatively identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospect and donors, with an emphasis on gifts of $10k or greater.
The Assistant Vice President for Advancement provides leadership in planning, directing and managing the fundraising activities in the areas of advancement services, corporate & foundation relations, athletics and major gifts. This position will play a key role in developing and building the planned giving program.
The position will have a portfolio of at least 125 prospects, activity and productions metrics, travel and participation in evening and weekend work-related activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage assigned portfolio of major/planned gift prospects and creates and executes cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for major/planned gift prospects and donors
Manages and leads the planning and execution of comprehensive campaigns and special projects
Provides effective leadership, support and direction for advancement services and the corporate & foundation relations and major/planned gift leadership
Works with Athletic Director and staff to develop fundraising campaigns and programs to increase attendance
Represents the University at system meetings when necessary
Represents the Office of Marketing, Communications & Advancement to donors, board members, alumni, staff, faculty and others within the community
Lead strategic marketing efforts for the University that help meet branding, enrollment and fundraising goals, including athletics, as well as enhance the visibility and reputation of the University
Direct social media strategy to boost brand awareness and build engagement; enhance fundraising and revenue
Oversee digital strategy to ensure optimal use of channels to drive traffic to the online presence of the University and effectively guide supporters and future applicants
Participate in decision-making process and lead execution of significant strategic marketing to advance the institution's brand and reputation
Ensure messaging across institutional initiatives by aligning and collaborating with key University departments
Provide leadership and strategic insight to ensure brand consistency across university marketing materials and advertising
Ensure marketing resources are strategically deployed to support key initiatives across the University and provide consistent and timely responses to requests for marketing support from internal stakeholders
Direct budgetary spending for marketing and communications with approval from the Vice President of Marketing, Communication & Advancement
Work with Director of Marketing & Public Relations and other staff to lead and develop a sound media strategy for Alabama A&M
Work with Director of Electronic Media Communications to deliver quality radio and television programming, while also increasing revenue opportunities for our 100,000 kw 90.9 FM WJAB campus radio station and television station that airs in the Huntsville market
Requirements:
Minimum Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or Public Relations (Advance degree preferred) and 5 years proven track record of successfully closing gifts of $10k+ (outright and planned).
Leadership experience in a comprehensive campaign setting including designing, planning and executing a plan for a multi-faceted institution.
Planned giving experience.
Experience in higher education development as well as corporate and foundation relations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge, training and experience in the area of major gifts and the principles and fundamentals of fundraising, including prospect research, portfolio and pipeline management, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Success in building productive, long term relationships with senior university administrators, faculty, staff, board members, volunteers and donors.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and memory skills, writing, editing, oral communication and presentation skills required, as well as demonstrating personal integrity, creativity, flexibility, diplomacy and accountability.
Ability to mentor and develop a high functioning work team. Proven ability to collaborate across units and build consensus.
Knowledge of advancement donor/prospect management systems - Raisers Edge or Banner experience preferred.
Skills in planning, marketing and time management. 5 years supervisory experience and the ability to perform multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines.
Entrepreneurial spirit, sense of humor and results-oriented.

The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
