Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach supports the planning, administration, and promotion of a nationally competitive Division I women’s volleyball program in compliance with NCAA and Big South rules and regulations and university policies. 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Previous experience coaching volleyball at the club, high school, or collegiate level.
• Playing experience at the club or collegiate level.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least three years of college coaching experience.
• Collegiate playing experience.
• Recruiting experience.
• Proficiency with scouting software VolleyStation, DataVolley, and/or BallTime.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe suite, and ARMS or similar recruiting software.
• Experience with operations-related tasks, including travel itineraries, business office communications, recruiting itineraries, equipment ordering, and budget management.

• Ability to demonstrate and teach sport-specific skills and coach all volleyball positions with proficiency.
• Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully in person, via email, and through team communication platforms.
• Proven ability to counsel and advise student-athletes.
• Ability to maintain a high level of personal accountability and reliability in all coaching and administrative duties.
• Ability to work independently and quickly learn program systems, scouting tools, and operational processes.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, student-athletes, parents, and the general public.
• Seeks feedback, adapts quickly, and remains open to continuous learning and professional growth.
• Proven ability to maintain high ethical standards and cultivate an encouraging, inclusive environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.

Job Summary

• Executes approved recruiting plan and provides regular progress reports to head coach. 
• Helps coordinate team operations, including travel, equipment and other operational activities.
• Provides instruction during film sessions and individual and group skill instruction during practices. 
• Meets with student-athletes to assist in organizing, balancing and prioritizing their academic, athletic and personal schedules. 
• Grows network of contacts and builds relationships to enhance recruiting efforts, summer camp attendance (with an emphasis on recruits) and alumni and community engagement. 
• Assists Head Coach with opponent scouting and development of game plan and strategy. 

Travel/Overtime Requirements

Requires extensive travel, including overnight, for recruiting and competitions.
