Assistant coaches play a vital role in supporting the head coach and contributing to the overall success of a sports program. Their duties and responsibilities are multifaceted, encompassing various aspects of team management, player development, and administrative tasks.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assistant coaches work closely with the head coach to develop and implement training programs, game strategies, and player development plans. They provide individual instruction, feedback, and mentorship to athletes, helping them improve their skills, performance, and overall athletic development. Assistant coaches assist in scouting opponents, analyzing game footage, and developing game plans, ensuring the team is well-prepared for competitions. They lead or assist in conducting training sessions, drills, and workouts, ensuring players are physically and mentally prepared for games. This includes organizing team travel, managing equipment, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations. (40%)

  • Assistant coaches will assist with recruiting new players, evaluating their skills, and assessing their potential fit within the team. They track and evaluate athlete performance, providing feedback to the head coach and individual players. (30%)

  • They act as role models and mentors to athletes, offering guidance and support on and off the field, including academic and personal development. Effective communication with the head coach, other staff members, and athletes is crucial for a successful program. Assistant coaches contribute to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, encouraging sportsmanship and teamwork. (30%)

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Prior college or high school coaching experience.
