Description

The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach and Director of Athletics to support the goals and objectives of the athletics program at SIUE. The Assistant Coach will assist in organizing practices, recruiting student-athletes, supporting team travel, fundraising efforts, and carrying out additional responsibilities as directed by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics. This position is expected to comply with all University, Conference, and NCAA Division I rules and regulations and work cooperatively with other departmental personnel. The Assistant Coach will demonstrate a strong commitment to the health, safety, and welfare of student-athletes, and support the student-athlete experience both on and off the field.

Description

Key Responsibilities:
Coaching and Player Development:

• Develop individual players’ skills, tailoring instruction to the physical and mental needs of each athlete and position.
• Design practice techniques to improve fundamental skills and monitor ongoing player development.
• Collaborate with athletic trainers and strength coaches to develop player-specific drills and exercises.
• Assess the talent of current and prospective student-athletes, aligning evaluations with team needs for both the immediate and future seasons.
• Scout prospective talent at games and key tournaments, evaluating players' skills and abilities.
• Recommend scholarships based on talent evaluation and team fit.
• Scout and analyze opponents to determine their strengths, weaknesses, and overall game strategy.
• Evaluate game films and scouting reports to contribute to strategic planning for competition.

Team Administration and Travel Coordination:

• Assist in the coordination and execution of team travel, including arranging transportation, meals, meeting rooms, and accommodations.
• Develop and manage team itineraries based on coaching needs, facility availability, and budget guidelines.
• Negotiate pricing for all travel-related services, including securing complementary rooms and upgrades.
• Assist with arranging meals and developing travel logistics to align with coaching objectives.
• Organize and oversee community outreach opportunities for the team, including transportation arrangements to events.

Academic Support and Student-Athlete Welfare:

• Monitor players' academic progress and ensure required hours for study tables are met.
• Meet with individual players to discuss academic progress and work with academic advisors to address any academic deficiencies.
• Follow up on players’ class schedules to ensure academic progress aligns with NCAA and University requirements.
• Promote a positive student-athlete experience by supporting their overall welfare, including health and safety, while maintaining a high standard of performance both in athletics and academics.

Camp and Fundraising Support:

• Serve as the Camp Director, organizing camp activities, managing registrations, hiring and supervising staff, and meeting financial objectives.
• Assist in fundraising efforts, supporting the athletics department's financial goals.
• Collaborate with the Head Coach and Director of Athletics to develop and implement fundraising strategies.

Additional Duties:

• Support the Head Coach and Director of Athletics in any additional areas of responsibility as directed.
• Work collaboratively with other staff members and departments to ensure the overall success of the athletics program.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Proven experience in coaching, player development, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.

• Ability to interact effectively with student-athletes, colleagues, and the public
• Four years collegiate playing experience or combined collegiate and professional playing experience totaling 4 years
• Two seasons of coaching experience (this includes graduate assistantships or volunteer coaching positions based on NCAA guidelines)

Preferred:
• Master's Degree
• NCAA Division I experience
• Knowledge of University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
