Responsible for providing overall leadership and oversight to academic programs in the department of intercollegiate athletics. Manages the daily operations of academic eligibility for student-athletes, academic progress rates, student development program and assigned administrative areas within the department of intercollegiate athletics. This position is a member of the executive staff.
• Oversight of the day to day operations of academic support, including the student development program, which provides current and former student athletes with resources necessary for success in competition and life, including personal development, career development and community outreach.• Assists the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Women Administrator and university administration with issues and operations for compliance with Title IX, with women’s programs in governance and equity issues, monitoring the university’s compliance with equity and diversity as an ex-officio member of the Athletic Council, including department equity and diversity inclusion plans.• Serves as liaison for department to the Office of the Registrar, including monitoring academic eligibility of student-athletes, and coordinates various reports with the Office of the Registrar, including the Academic Progress Rates (APR).• Serves as administrative liaison to the Director of Athletics for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.• Responsible for the direct oversight and management of the Athletics Academic Advising Staff.• Responsible for developing programs to assist the Athletic Academic Service Unit (AASU) with meeting the needs of the student-athletes and other constituents of the program such as faculty, coaches, and university administrators. Programs will include academic enhancement, community engagement, career development and personal development based programs designed to assist with the academic success of the student-athlete.• Organizes and implements academic services programs that closely monitor the academic progress of freshmen, transfers and at-risk student athletes, including assisting with on-campus recruitment visits of student-athletes by preliminary assessing their admission status and academic eligibility status by NCAA standards. Ensures to motivate student-athletes to take ownership of their academic development.• Assists coaches in establishing and conducting sport-specific study programs and supervised study sessions for their respective athletes. Communicates with coaches and tracks the admissions status, assessment and pre-registration of all new student-athletes.• Assists and advises student-athletes each semester during the pre-registration process through monitoring and record keeping of their class schedules for graduation requirements and special athletic needs, such as travel and practice times.• Responsible to implement a monitoring and reporting program for assessing student-athlete course performance, and manage overall distribution, management and accounting of departmental textbook program.• Researches, solicits, and secures grants to assist in the funding of the Athletics Academic Services unit.• Plays a key role in UTRGV student-athletes’ involvement with service learning projects and coordinates Mentor Program, Academic Honors and Graduation receptions.• Establishes relationships with various campus and community stakeholders needed to assist with promoting the student-athlete experience, retention, and post-graduation career options.• Assists Athletics Compliance with initial eligibility, through NCAA Clearinghouse information and with continuing eligibility status for compliance with NCAA, conference and UTRGV academic standards.• Serves on various conference and/or university committees as required.• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University.
Degree in Education, Counseling, Behavioral Science, or related field.

Four (4) years’ experience performing related professional work.
Work experience obtained within collegiate athletics. Knowledge of relevant NCAA guidelines.
Use of standard office equipment.
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Some weekend work and/or travel will be required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner. Ability to demonstrate effective athletic personnel and programmatic administration, leadership and supervisory skills and strategies. Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures of the University, Conference and the NCAA. Ability to exhibit integrity with high ethical standards and strict adherence to NCAA, conference, university and departmental rules and regulations as well as solid commitment to academic integrity, student-athlete welfare, ethnic diversity and gender equity.
