Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Develops overall sports medicine program for the University, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programing for Student-Athletes.
Assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Sports Medicine Clinic.
Provides athletic training services for practice, home and/or away competition (if necessary).
Team coverage of designated sports including pre-practice prep, home and away contests. Travel required with team driving responsibilities.
Create a sports medicine team with experts in their specific field.
Supervises the treatment or referral of all injuries and post injury rehabilitation to the members of the sports medicine team; interface directly with medical personnel regarding the treatment of Student-Athletes.
Coordinates and schedules physical examinations and medical referrals for Student-Athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
Develop, train, and supervises athletic training staff.
Serve as a clinical preceptor to student athletic trainers in the MS-AT program. Assist in the daily supervision and critical evaluation of athletic training students.
Oversees all medical insurance claims and insurance coverage for all student-athletes.
Assist Student-Athletes with health care needs and concerns and make appropriate referrals as needed. Stay in communication with attending physicians regarding prognosis and orders for injured Student-Athletes.
Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning coaches and coaching staff
to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual Student-Athlete needs.
Schedules and coordinates athletic training staff for clinical coverage for practice and competitions.
Determines and ensures the acquisition of safety equipment and supplies applicable to the respective intercollegiate sports; evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medicine program.
Supervises the compilation and maintenance of statistical records of team injuries and medical data for the Athletic Department.
Student-Athlete banned substance and drug testing education.
Drug testing site administrator. Organizes and schedules NCAA and PLNU randomized drug testing of all athletic teams.
Assists with NCAA hardship waivers.
Maintain Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manuel
Attend university and department meetings.
Maintain all required certifications.
NCAA, PacWest and PLNU Reports.
Assist with PLNU camp and clinic coverage.
Maintain EMR software.
Maintain daily injury records using current EMR.
Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with all PacWest Conference and NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to all job-related activities.
Other duties as assigned.

Requires flexible schedule. Possible early mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and weekend shifts; travel required.
Administrative skills in record keeping, charting, basic computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Google Apps, and Electronic Medical Record keeping systems (EMR), ATS preferred.

Education/Certifications
Master’s degree in related field
Certification through National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification
First Aid, CPR, AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification (AHA or ARC)
Required Experience
5 years’ experience, collegiate level preferred
Eligible for Athletic Training Preceptor Status
Physical Requirements
Standing and sitting for periods greater than one hour. Push, pull, bend, twist, grasp, reach, and lift up to 75 lbs. throughout the day.
Ability to perform the manual tasks associated with manual therapy for both evaluation and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Ability to manually assist ambulation of injured athletes.
Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Requires repetitive motions.
Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Visual acuity necessary for evaluations and wound debridement.
Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone.
