Position Summary
The Associate Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes competing in NCAA Division II athletics. This position will serve either as the primary athletic trainer for the institution’s men’s ice hockey program or as the Head Football Athletic Trainer, depending on departmental needs and candidate experience. In addition to ice hockey or football responsibilities, the athletic trainer will oversee medical coverage and care for an additional 2 assigned varsity sport programs.
The Associate Athletic Trainer supports the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries while promoting the overall health and wellness of student-athletes. The position works collaboratively with coaches, physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality medical care and compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.

The Associate Athletic Trainer supports the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries while promoting the overall health and wellness of student-athletes. The position works collaboratively with coaches, physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality medical care and compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.
This is an 11-month position with salary paid over a 12-month schedule. The position is structured to provide a minimum of two days off per week and is designed to maintain a work-life balance throughout the school-year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Provide athletic training coverage for assigned intercollegiate athletic teams, including practices, home and away competitions, and postseason events.
● Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries and illnesses sustained by student-athletes.
● Develop and implement rehabilitation and injury prevention programs.
● Coordinate referrals and communication with team physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers.
● Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation using electronic medical record systems.
● Assist with the organization and operation of the athletic training facility.
● Coordinate emergency action plans and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
● Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, and overall wellness.
● Ensure compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, institutional, and state regulations related to sports medicine and healthcare.
● Supervise athletic training students, interns, or graduate assistants when applicable.
● Assist with medical clearances.
● Travel with teams as assigned.
● Perform additional administrative or departmental duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine & Performance or Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution.
● Board of Certification (BOC) certified.
● Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
● CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
● Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
● Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by athletic schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
● 3 - 5 Years of collegiate athletic training experience, preferably within NCAA athletics.
● Experience with electronic medical record systems and injury tracking software.
● Experience supervising students or graduate assistants.
● Familiarity with NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
● CPR Instructor Certification Physical Requirements
● Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
● Ability to lift and carry athletic training equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds.
● Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations and perform physical aspects of athletic training care.
Work Environment
This position requires work in athletic training facilities, indoor and outdoor athletic venues, and travel to competitions. Evening and weekend hours are routinely required.
