Supervise and coordinate athletic training services for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs, specifically men’s basketball, for the University of Georgia Athletic Department, working under the medical direction of team physicians and in conjunction with referring physicians, other ancillary medical professionals, and UGAA staff (athletic administration, athletic coaching, athletic training, academics, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, counseling/sports psychology) and adhere to NCAA, SEC and institutional rules and regulations. | | Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |

Recognition, Evaluation and Management of Athletic Injuries:

• serve as senior assistant athletic trainer for men’s basketball, includes practice and competition coverage and travel responsibilities
• coordinate coverage and supervise medical care for men’s basketball and other athletes,
  sports, events as assigned by director of sports medicine
• initial assessment and treatment of athletic injuries

• physician referral as appropriate

  • daily communication with primary care team physician
  • regular communication with specialty team physicians as appropriate

• casting and splinting

• wound care, including removal of sutures and staples on MD order

• diagnostic testing appointments

• physician appointments

Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries:

• development and implementation of structured rehabilitation programs under MD supervision

  • coordinate physician re-checks
  • participate in rehabilitation progress update meetings
  • maintain appropriate communication with supervising physician

• development of rehabilitation protocols and coordinate rehabilitation with director sports medicine and/or director of rehabilitation

• use of therapeutic modalities and exercise

• coordination of physician re-checks

• athletic rehabilitation progress reports provided weekly, coordinated with director of rehabilitation

• isokinetic testing

• supervision and coordination of assistant athletic trainers, interns, graduate assistant and student athletic trainers
• graduate assistant athletic trainer and intern athletic trainer search committees

• collection of pertinent medical documents (i.e. hospital records, surgery reports, etc…)
• organization and administration of athletic training room under direction of team physicians
• supply and equipment inventory and ordering
• computer injury tracking system
