The Associate Athletic Trainer partners with the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Trainers in managing and providing healthcare to William Peace University student-athletes. This includes prevention, evaluation, and treatment/rehabilitation of injuries/illness. The Associate Athletic Trainer serves as second-in-command and supervises staff and athletic training students/interns and operations in the Head Athletic Trainer’s absence.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the individual holding this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
• Adhere to all professional, National Athletic Trainers’ Association (
NATA
),
NCAA
and William Peace University guidelines for appropriate and responsible behavior.
• Practice/oversee all domains and roles as an athletic trainer, delineated by the
NATA
.
● Independently provide immediate emergency medical attention and make decisions regarding the appropriate course of action to ensure the safety and well-being of athletes.
● Evaluate and provide treatment and rehabilitation services for student-athletes as referred by team physician. Use judgment and discretion to determine and apply appropriate medical care.
● Develop and implement rehabilitative programs to facilitate a safe and quick return to play status; may include post-operative care.
● Maintain accurate, complete, and precise documentation on all relevant athletes daily.
● Maintain confidentiality of information concerning student-athletes, following
HIPPA
and
FERPA
guidelines.
● Identify and correct common risk factors and conditions predisposing the athletes to increased risk of injury.
● Uphold and enforce the William Peace University Sports Medicine Policy and Procedure manual.
● Communicate directly with Head Strength and Conditioning Coach to develop injury prevention programs.
● Interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations in the University community and the public.
● Attend practices and home games for assigned teams and as scheduled including occasional travel to away games. If assigned, travel to all away games.
● Maintain effective and professional lines of communication with
WPU
administrative, athletic training, and coaching staff.
● Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in the consideration, selection, and maintenance of athletic training equipment and medical supplies including functioning within the existing inventory and budget.
● Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with functions associated with Budget Management.
● Facilitate pre-participation screening including concussion baseline testing for all sports.
● Facilitate
NCAA
and institutional drug testing, as deemed necessary by the Athletic Director and
WPU
Wellness Center.
● Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating and keeping updated all
NCAA
and
USA
South certifications of the coaching staff.
● Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in monitoring
CPR
certification for
WPU
coaching staff.
● Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating
NCAA
Compliance and
USA
South Athletic Conference Eligibility for Student Athletes. This includes rosters for all sports in fall, winter and spring and winter recertification.
● Educate individuals on issues concerning physical and mental health/well-being.
● Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with review of Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act Report and monitor the implementation of gender-equity plan.
● Maintain active membership in appropriate professional organizations like
NACWAA

NATA
and others per
USA
South and
NCAA
.
● Maintain
NATABOC
certification and NC State Athletic Trainer Licensure through continuing education.
● Effectively work with a diverse population of students, employees, visitors, and guests.
● Perform other duties as assigned.

● Ability to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
● Ability to demonstrate proper techniques and form of exercises.

● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

ENVIRONMENT
:

● Must be available to work a non-traditional, varying schedule that may include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, overnight travel, and occasional holidays.
Master’s Degree and two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires
ATABOC
Certification, NC State Athletic Trainer Licensure, or eligibility to receive licensure within 3 months of hire;
CPR
/
AED
for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent; and knowledge of
HIPAA
rules and regulations.
● Experience supervising Athletic Training staff and/or students.
