Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Academics Department with the oversight of the Director. Performs highly complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning in the department.
Directs program activities of staff. Oversees all day-to-day operations within Student-Athlete Academic Services including oversight of all staff within Academics. Allocates sports oversight and responsibility for eligibility, advisement and course registration. Develops and implements techniques for evaluating program activities. Develops programs focused on retention and graduation of student-athletes. Monitors and tracks athletic eligibility and student-athlete academic progress and works with on campus advisors to ensure progress toward graduation for student-athletes. Develops and manage academic advising processes to ensure student success from matriculation through graduation. Sets benchmarks for evaluating at-risk levels of student-athletes. Develops goals and objectives as they relate to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Academic Eligibility, Student-Athlete Academic Success, Academic Monitoring/Tutoring/Study Hall, and Student-Athlete Development. Oversees and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Aligns with NCAA Academic Revenue Distribution in order to create additional revenue streams for the department. Coordinates priority of academic monitoring and allocates resources in necessary areas. Oversees the submission of all documentation for the NCAA Academic Performance Program including data for Academic Progress Rate (APR) and graduation rates. Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures and oversees compliance with policies and procedures. Ensures all sports teams maintain the necessary NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) where no reduction in scholarships, post season bans, or additional penalties are applied. Provides student-athletes development support in accordance with NCAA, conference, and university requirements. Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations. Creates Academic Improvement Plans for teams and individuals that do not meet the standard or are close to falling below the threshold. Works with stakeholders to improve academic support and overall monitoring. Evaluates the continuing NCAA eligibility certification process and identify areas that can improve the efficiency and accuracy of the process. Oversees the student-athlete registration process and implements areas of improvement within the process. Develops and reviews budget expenditures. Creates purchase orders for equipment, supplies for staff and student-athletes within the Learning Enhancement Center. Creates priority list for eligibility, APR and graduation to budget for Summer Funding. Oversees the work of the Senior Academic Advisor, Assistant Director of Student Success, Academic Success Manager, and Academic Advisors. Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies. Runs reports to review student-athlete registration, grades, grade point average (GPA), and organize special populations within the department. Creates studies that breakdown student success including admissions status, initial eligibility, transferable hours, tutoring hours, study hours to maximize eligibility and retention of student-athletes. Manages programs focusing on continuous Academic improvement. Makes decisions independently under the authority of the director when the director is absent. Will be assigned as a Senior Sports Administrator to provide team oversight in the absence of the AD. Attends meetings as scheduled by Conference USA, NCAA, and SHSU. May accompany team on travel dates as needed. Enforces department policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
