Responsibilities
Administers and oversees the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to all student-athletes to include
Planning and coordination of physical examinations and screenings
Organize and administer drug testing per university policy
Medical care for student athletes per sports medicine standard operating procedures
Provide accommodation recommendations, for relevant sport, for athletes with restrictions or limitations
Determination of return to play for student athletes with advice from physician if needed
Maintains electronic medical records of all patient encounters in accordance with federal and state regulations
Coordinate and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for student athletes with advice from physician if needed
Communicate with physician and coaches regarding student athlete injury status
Assist visiting athletic teams with medical accommodations and services as needed
Responsible for onsite (practices and home events) care and management of injuries/illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of student athletes
Supervision
Manages and supervises sports medicine staff
Assign athletic training coverage of sports per risk level of the sport and availability of training staff
Responsible for hiring and supervision of Federal Work Study students
Supervision of conduct of student athletes in both Athletic Training Facilities and reports any problems to the appropriate coach
Responsible for conducting annual performance review for direct reports
Responsible for being present, or has a designated assistant athletic trainer at practices and home events per risk level of the sport and availability of the athletic training staff
Tracks and ensures that the Athletic Department staff maintains First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
Responsible for implementation and rehearsal of health and safety best practices with athletic training staff
Financial
Develops and manages the Athletic Training Facility budgets
Coordinates the purchasing and use of all equipment supplies needed for the operation of the Athletic Training Facility
Develops and maintains all service agreements with medical consultants
Policy Compliance
Develop and maintain emergency action plans for all permanent and temporary practice and competition venues
Develops and maintains all department guidelines, policy and procedure in accordance with national/international best practices and consensus statements
Knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NAIA and conferences which should be maintained, reviewed, and practiced ensuring compliance relative to those applicable duties
Develops and manages the Athletic Training Facility, and protocols/procedures/policies to maintain optimal health, safety and welfare of all student athletes
Helps monitor weather conditions and dangerous environments (cold/humidity/lighting/tornado)
Finance
Assists the Director of Athletics and coaching staff in determining whether the athletic facility is in optimal and safe condition.
Minimum Requirements/Certification/Licensure
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field
Knowledge of university, sport, and organizational rules, policies, procedures, regulations, and services/programs; rules governing conference and NAIA participation, sound leadership skills.
BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
Licensed by the State of Missouri, Board of Registration for the Healing Arts
CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers
Preferred Education/experience
Master’s degree from an accredited institution
