The Associate Equipment Manager assists Head Equipment Manager in day-to-day operation of the Equipment Room. Ensuring professional and efficient service to student-athletes, coaches, visiting teams, officials, vendors, faculty and staff. They will also ensure equipment is maintained for performance and particularly for safety. The anticipated start date for this position is the beginning of January.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $19.26-23.59 per hour.
Core Responsibilities:
Manage uniform and equipment fitting for practice and games for 31 varsity teams.
Purchase, maintain and maintain inventory and record keeping for 31 varsity teams.
Maintain protective equipment and skates for men’s and women’s ice hockey. When necessary, work with Sports Medicine to fabricate personalized equipment for protection or accommodation for injury.
Collaborate with Equipment Room Manager to train and support student workers for home and traveling skate sharpening. Provide skate sharpening services for ice hockey teams when needed. Potential travel with ice hockey during post-season to fix equipment, particularly for safety purposes, and provide skate sharpening, and/or travel with football during the regular season to manage equipment needs, particularly for safety purposes.
Work with Head Equipment Manager to ensure safety protocols for equipment are met for all contact sports, e.g. football, ice hockey, lacrosse. Safety checks must be done pre-season and then regularly throughout the season.
Purchase, maintain and tune sewing machines, skate sharpening machines, and heat press machine.
Maintain uniforms with sewing, including fitting, alterations, mending of torn practice or game uniforms or gear or protective equipment.
Must be responsive to time sensitive issues, particularly related to equipment needs for safety purposes. These issues may arise on nights or weekends and may demand immediate attention.
Requirements
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a detailed approach to work, particularly as it relates to safety protocols and safety equipment.
Possesses a general knowledge of trade skills.
Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks for 31 varsity teams and 700 student-athletes, often with time constraints related to practice and game schedules and overlapping seasons.
Must possess excellent communication skills with a diverse range of constituencies including, students, coaches, faculty, and staff, often under pressure situations.
Working knowledge of computers preferred in order to manage inventory.
Willingness to engage in on-going professional development as industry standards change, particularly related to safety protocols and equipment.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Involves physical movements such as bending, twisting, reaching.
Must be able to lift up to 75lbs, particularly when working with football or ice hockey.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Working conditions include loud machines, sharp instruments, dust and chemicals.
Willingness and ability to travel with teams, each away game for football and post-season for ice hockey.
