The Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Long Island University will be responsible for the development and supervision of the student-athletes in the men’s basketball
Program. Major responsibilities may include but are not limited to assisting with the development and supervision of the student-athletes in the men’s basketball program;
Assisting the program in accordance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, Northeast Conference (NEC), and University rules, regulations and policies;
Recruit student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations and academic standards, as well as University requirements; Assisting with scheduling nationally competitive
teams in conjunction with the Head Coach; Assisting in the planning and coordinating of in-season practices, including team and individual workouts; Assisting in the planning
and coordinating of out-of-season practices, including individual skill instruction and team workouts, focusing on the development of athletic skills to compete at the Division I
level; Assisting in monitoring the academics of each of the men’s basketball student-athletes; Effectively communicate with Athletics Student Services, Compliance, and Sports
Medicine staff. Assisting with the planning and implementing of game plans, including development of scouting reports of opponents; Assisting with budget responsibilities that
includes recruitment, team travel, and equipment; Coordinate strength and conditioning program with assigned Strength and Conditioning Coach; Complete and submit all
necessary compliance forms as required and/or requested by the Athletics Compliance Office in a timely manner; Support all marketing activities and University
initiatives/programs for the men’s basketball program; Participate in fund raising activities for the men’s basketball program and/or
Department of Athletics; Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, media, and friends of the university; Perform computer related tasks;
Perform other duties as assigned by Head Coach and Sport Supervisor.
Position Summary:
Assists with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, provides game-day coaching, and practice preparation, as well as program administrative responsibilities within the
Athletics Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Coach is charged with several major duties in connection with the men’s
basketball program, including:
•Serves as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced
and works to advance the University’s mission of diversity and inclusion.
•Ability to recruit highly qualified prospective student-athletes who demonstrate the potential
to be successful academically and productive contributors to the men’s basketball program.
•Mentor and monitor student-athlete development; ensuring academic and athletic success,
citizenship, sportsmanship and positive values.
•Responsible for competition strategy, event day coaching, and practice preparation in
accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations.
•Assist with maintaining the program’s operating budget and the development and
implementation of a fundraising strategic plan.
•Maintain relationships with all facets of the Department of Athletics, including the athletic
training/strength and conditioning staff, compliance coordinator, athletic media relations
staff, home events coordinator and all other staff members responsible for the day-to-day
operation of the Department of Athletics.
•Promote the Department of Athletics and men’s basketball program through community
events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
•Ensure compliance with all policies, rules and regulations set forth by Long Island
University, the athletics department and the NCAA.
Successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree and previous coaching experience.
Candidates should also possess an enthusiasm for working with individual athletes, a strong basketball background, excellent oral and written communication skills, a solid workethic, and a commitment to NCAA rules. Strong computer skills are a plus.
