Summary of Job Duties: Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director/Academics and Student-Athlete Development, the Assistant Director of Academics (Football and Gymnastics) will monitor academic progress of student-athletes in compliance with NCAA, Southeastern Conference and the University of Arkansas rules and regulations. The Academic Counselor (Football and Gymnastics) will work with coaches, staff, and professors to foster an atmosphere that retains student-athletes and culminates in graduation from the University while supervising a graduate assistant. Duties will include advising student-athletes, coordinating graduation plans, monitoring continuing eligibility including APR, and assisting with on campus recruiting.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning

• Associate = At least three years of full-time experience in athletic academic assistance

• Assistant = At least one year of full-time experience in athletic academic assistance

• Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse population of student athletes, coaches, and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning

• Experience working with football student-athletes in an academic setting

• Experience as a Student-Athlete or working with NCAA Division I student-athletes

• Working knowledge of NCAA Bylaws, with particular attention to academics and eligibility requirements

• Familiarity with collegiate athletics and the needs of student-athletes

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations

• Strong organizational and administrative abilities

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrate the ability to communicate with a diverse population of student athletes, coaches, and staff

• Possesses high self-awareness and high emotional intelligence

• Knowledge of collegiate athletics and the academic needs of student-athletes
