Position Summary:
The University of Northern Colorado is seeking an Assistant Director of Strategic Communication that will
assist the Director of Strategic Communication in the day-to-day coverage of the 17 intercollegiate
programs in addition to serving as the primary contact for assigned sports.
The position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Strategic Communications Department, with
a primary focus on the following areas: media relations, Internet/multimedia, publications, broadcasting,
social media, budget management, and student staff supervision.
Job Duties:
• Oversee all strategic communications efforts for primary sports to positively promote and elevate the Northern Colorado Bears brand. (30%)
• Oversee all social media content and assist in the creation of content, including graphics and video, for primary sports with an emphasis on creative storytelling. (25%)
• Design and produce all publications including media guides, press releases, game notes, and game programs for primary sports. (20%)
• Maintain historical records, statistics, and archives for primary sports and serve as the lead and primary statistician for all sports. (10%)
• Assist in the creation of other additional content to be used on UNCBears.com. (5%)
• Manage game operations for primary sports and assist in game operations for other sports as needed. (5%)
• Assist in the oversight of staff including student interns. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a field such as Journalism,Communications or Sports Administration, master's
degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:
At least one year of experience in college athletic communications or a related field.
Ability:
Must have a strong background in writing, editing, graphic design and be able to oversee all
publications produced by the Strategic Communications Department. Must be able to manage the
Athletic Department website and oversee production of all multimedia content. Must be able to
develop and maintain strong relationships with members of the media, coaches and student-athletes,
parents, fans and alumni. Proficient with graphic design programs software. Ability to supervise all
Strategic Communications staff.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
