Job Description
This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.
The Academic Advisor II, complies with all state, system, and university policies, regulations, rules, procedures, guidelines, and directives in a timely manner and adhere to confidentiality policies (FERPA).
Responsibilities:
Provides pre-assessment of student-athletes academic abilities and skills during their first semester of enrollment at PVAMU.
Provides specialized orientation programming for freshman/transfer student-athletes.
Provides academic advising to assigned pre-major student-athletes.
Works with assigned PVAMU Faculty/staff advisors to ensure progress toward graduation for student-athletes with declared majors.
Monitors and tracks student-athlete academic progress.
Assists student-athletes in developing academic plans.
Monitors assignment of tutorial support.
Assists in course scheduling (registration).
Monitors and tracks athletic eligibility.
Communicates student-athlete's academic progress, grade checks, and class attendance to coaches.
Provides information to student-athletes and coaches regarding institutional policies, academic requirements, and athletic eligibility.
Nominates student-athletes for NCAA, conference, and, institutional academic awards.
Assists in the completion of continuing eligibility certification.
Acts as a liaison between student-athletes and faculty, academic departments, and student services personnel.
Assists with the preparation of NCAA, SWAC, and institutional reports as assigned by the Director.
Participates in the recruiting process by meeting with prospective student-athletes in assigned sports.
Assists in the development of student-athlete orientation, career, personal, and professional development programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
Three years of experience in athletic advising/counseling students in higher education or related field.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of NCAA eligibility rules.
