JOB DESCRIPTION
Newberry College is seeking candidates for a graduate assistant position within the Athletics Communication Department. The successful applicant will serve a two-year assistantship, assisting in the day-to-day operations of the office which serves the athletic department's 26 teams. Newberry College is a member of the South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II. The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for at least four to six sports each season throughout the year. Duties will include, but not be limited to, all preparations for sports, individual is responsible for creation of press releases, preparation of game day programs, statistical input, social media content, game-day operations for all sports and other duties as assigned. Compensation includes Full Tuition Waiver for Master of Science in Organizational Development & Leadership OR Master of Science in Sport Management & Leadership, housing, and an on-campus meal plan. The assistantship position at Newberry has a long tradition of hard- working individuals who have gone on to become contributors to their profession over the last decade. Alumni of the program include head and assistant SID’s in all three NCAA divisions and others in minor league baseball front offices.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist in the day-to-day operation of the Athletic Communication Office. This includes, but is not limited to, writing press releases, game recaps, and feature stories for assigned sports, daily website maintenance and graphic design.
Serve as the primary contact for specific Newberry College programs while aiding in the coverage of other in-season teams.
Conduct all aspects of pre-game, in-game, and post-game coverage for assigned home contests.
Perform assorted game-day duties, such as public address announcing, play-by-play broadcasting, stats (NCAA Live Stats, StatCrew or Presto Stats) social media coverage.
Ensure accurate statistics for all home games; organize, direct, and supervise event staff for the functions of taking statistics; and exchange sports information with other institutions with whom we compete.
Promote Newberry athletics through social media including X, Facebook and Instagram as well as any local, regional, and national media.
Assist with special events as assigned, including, but not limited to the Athletic Club Golf Outing, the Student-Athlete Banquet and the Wolfies.
Adhere to all NCAA, South Atlantic Conference and Newberry College rules and regulations.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletic Communications.

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, sports management or another related field. At least one year of working experience in the college or professional sports communications fields as a student-worker, intern, graduate assistant or other relevant position. Experience with website maintenance, photography, videography, social media content creation and game/event management. Familiarity and/or experience with the following: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, AfterEffects), BlueFrame/Production Truck, Microsoft Office, NCAA Live Stats (Genius Sports), StatCrew, SIDEARM Sports and PrestoSports. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail. Ability to work weeknights and weekends. Admission to Newberry College graduate program.
