REPORTS TO: Director of Communications and External Relations
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
LOCATION: Hansen Athletic Center | Athletic Fields, Grand Rapids, MI
SUMMARY: The individual in this position represents Cornerstone University with hospitality and excellence by assisting with the coordination with the 20 athletic programs in communication, media, and public relations. They will aid the Director of Communications with overall promotion of the department’s goals.
COMPENSATION: 100% tuition benefit, not including fees and books, subject to financial aid guidelines. General stipend offered
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Director of Communications as a contact for select sports
Cover the sport in depth for entire sports season
Provide coverage at home and away events
Update social media and game notes/programs for select teams
Provide in-game statistics for WHAC and NAIA regulations
Update and maintain Athletics Website
Write and post articles following home and away contests
Provide access for fans to read and research about Cornerstone University programs
Combine with photography/video to help share information about CU Athletics
Coordinate and supervise student staff
Schedule student staff for home athletics events
Train and supervise game day student workers
Maintain open lines of communication to coordinate game operations with students and administrators
Utilize CU athletic department facilities to hospitably support the mission of Cornerstone
Build relationships in the community to create connections through Cornerstone athletic teams
Establish and maintain community service partnership initiatives through Christ centered sports team activities
Contribute to CU’s strategic plan for investment and engagement and recruitment in the GR/West Michigan community through hosting campus athletic events
Perform other duties as assigned
Maximum of 968 working hours, dependent on stipend
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required
Acceptance into a Cornerstone University Master’s Degree program
Demonstrated professional organizational and communication skills
Demonstrated capacity for personal leadership and conflict resolution
Proven capacity for self-motivation to meet deadlines and to thrive in high-pressure environments
Love for college athletics
Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and active Christian commitment
A theology that supports the values and mission of Cornerstone University, as evidenced by an ability to affirm and sign the university’s doctrinal statement, “The Cornerstone Confession”
