SUMMARY
The Director of Athletics provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for Rust College's intercollegiate athletics
program. This leader is responsible for fostering an environment that supports the holistic development, academic
success, and competitive excellence of student-athletes while upholding the College's mission and core values. The
Director oversees all athletic operations, including budget management, compliance with NAIA and conference
regulations, personnel supervision, recruitment and retention initiatives, facilities, and game operations. The position
collaborates closely with campus partners to enhance school spirit, elevate the student experience, and strengthen
community engagement. The Director of Athletics represents Rust College to external organizations, alumni, donors,
and the broader athletic community, advancing the visibility, integrity, and long-term success of Bearcats Athletics.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree required in business administration, communications, marketing, digital media, journalism,
graphic design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree
preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in video production, photography, and basic graphic design in an institutional,
organizational, or professional setting.
• Proficiency with industry-standard multimedia tools such as Adobe Premiere (or similar), Photoshop, Canva, and
working knowledge of Illustrator and/or InDesign.
• Experience creating and managing content for major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok,
LinkedIn, YouTube).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong visual storytelling skills with the ability to translate institutional priorities into engaging multimedia content
for diverse audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing captions, short scripts, and basic marketing
copy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience with digital file management, archiving, and
metadata practices.
• Cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to the mission, values, and traditions of Historically Black
Colleges and Universities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Strategic Planning
•
• Provide long-term vision and planning for the growth and success of the athletics program.
• Ensure alignment of athletics with the College's educational mission, values, and strategic priorities.
• Develop policies, procedures, and initiatives that promote integrity, inclusion, and student-centered
programming.
• Athletic Operations & Compliance
• Oversee all NAIA and conference compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to regulatory and reporting
requirements.
• Maintain a safe, equitable, and competitive environment for student-athletes and staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES Cont’d
• Provide multimedia support for live and virtual events, including basic streaming setup, presentation support,
and post-event highlight content.
• Organize, tag, and maintain a centralized digital asset library for photos, videos, audio files, and graphics for
marketing and historical purposes.
• Monitor and analyze engagement metrics for web, video, and social media content and recommend
improvements to enhance reach and impact.
• Support general marketing and communications initiatives as assigned, contributing to the overall visibility and
reputation of the College.
• Budget and Resource Management
• Develop and manage the athletics operating budget, ensuring responsible use of University resources
• Oversee athletic facilities, equipment, and capital project planning

Lead fundraising efforts in partnership with Advancement to enhance scholarships, facilities, and programmatic
needs.
• Personnel Management
• Recruit, supervise, and evaluate coaching and administrative staff.

• Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and support for staff development.
Foster a collaborative, professional, and high-performance culture across all athletic units.
• Campus & Community Engagement
•
Strengthening school spirit and community pride through athletic events and outreach.
• Build strong relationships with students, faculty, alumni, donors, and community partners.

Serve as the public representative of Bearcats Athletics at College events, professional associations, and
conference meetings.

Rust College is a historically black college located in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Rust is a private, coeducational, four-
year, residential, comprehensive Liberal Arts institution, affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1866,
the college faculty, staff and students are comprised of diverse, social, cultural, ethnic, racial, and national backgrounds.
The college is located 35 miles east of Memphis, TN with forty-seven buildings on a one hundred twenty-six-acre
