Position Overview
Reporting directly to the President of the University, the Athletics Director provides leadership and guidance for Wildcat Athletics at Linfield. This individual will be responsible for monitoring the quality of the various programs and to collaborate with student-athletes, coaches, athletic staff, institutional administrators, and a large collective of supports/investors to advance the athletics programs. Within the context of a decades-long tradition of success in competition and in developing students outside of the classroom, Linfield's next AD will be given the opportunity to advance the program at a school that truly acknowledges the importance of sports.

Why Linfield?
Founded in 1858, Linfield University is one of the oldest most well-respected colleges in the Pacific Northwest. Linfield is a private liberal arts college with campuses in Portland, McMinnville and online, and is consistently ranked as one of the best schools of its kind in the West (Princeton Review, 2020-2023) and a top institution for the social-mobility and future success of students (US New and World Report, 2022-2023). The school enrolls just over 1,700 students.
Linfield is also unique because of its commitment to sports. About 1/3 of the students are student-athletes. And they are drawn here, because it's an environment that truly values intercollegiate athletics and the importance of competition and teamwork and the development of the student in the classroom as well as on the field/court/track/etc. Linfield is peerless in the emphasis placed on the success of students, and this is demonstrated by the great efforts our administrators, coaches, staff and faculty place in collaborating to support them.
The University also boasts a storied tradition with Wildcat Athletics. There have been just four Athletic Directors at the University since 1949, who have been stewards of a culture of competitiveness, but also respect, determination, resourcefulness, and integrity. Our Football team has had more consecutive winning seasons than any other school at any level in the NCAA (67 and counting). But our Women's Softball team is right behind them at 31 winning seasons. Year after year, our teams compete at the highest level, while also enjoying real 'wins' in academic accomplishments and academic honors in the conference and across the division.
This opportunity to serve as the next AD at Linfield will be a chance to advance a rich, important athletics program. With a cohort of highly talented and deeply devoted coaches and staff, and supported by colleagues across campus, you will be given the chance to steward a beloved program. You will be supported by a large and passionate group of former student-athletes, community members, and fans who will be cheering you on. And you will be welcomed as someone who brings their own perspective, voice, and ideas, to make their own mark and create the next chapter here.
When screening your application, Linfield University will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to meet minimum qualifications for this position. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes with relevant transferrable skills from a variety of sources and experiences. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.
