Specific Job Title: Athletic Major Gifts Officer
Reports to: Senior Director of Athletic Development
Campus: Queens
Job Summary:
The Athletics Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for cultivating and soliciting major gifts ($25,000+) for the Red Storm's 17 Division I athletic programs. This position reports to the Senior Director of Athletics Development in the Division of Institutional Advancement.
Essential Functions:
Work closely with the Senior Director of Athletics Development, the Director of Athletics, as well as other executive, senior staff, and coaches to implement and solicit Athletics major gifts prospects.
Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-125 prospects.
Develop strategies for the identification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of the portfolio group.
Determine donor interest and direct toward Athletic and/or University priorities. Develop and execute an individualized plan for each prospect. Solicit every prospect for an annual gift during each fiscal year, in addition to major gifts as appropriate.
Recommend suitable giving opportunities and prepare major gift proposals for Athletic priorities.
Contribute to the development of a strong prospect pipeline through identification, validation, and cultivation efforts.
Work with other members of the Advancement team to appropriately engage key prospects in University activities.
Participate as an active member of the prospect management process, including identifying new prospects and in developing strategies for all major gifts prospects.
Work with Advancement Services and Athletic Business Affairs to monitor incoming gifts, make sure pledge fulfillment occurs, reconcile gifts, and generate reports as needed.
Ensure gift recognition occurs and acknowledgements are sent from the appropriate individuals in Athletics and Institutional Advancement, as appropriate.
Participate on Athletic Fundraising Special Event Committees.
Solicit gifts and auction prizes for Athletics Special Events.
Participate in Red White Club and Champion Partners activities and receptions.
Other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
Demonstrated knowledge of development practices and principles and a track record of success in managing major gift prospects and in securing gifts.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers in the Institutional Advancement area and with internal partners and external volunteers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
Flexibility to Weekend and evening work will be necessary.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional work environment and uses standard office equipment.
Physical Demands:
This position often requires long periods of standing and moving about in arena-like settings.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This full-time position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week and often requires long hours, weekend and evening work.
Travel:
Travel is mostly within the New York Metropolitan Area. It will also include out-of-area and overnight travel.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in development, preferably in a higher education
Other Duties:
Flexibility to travel. Weekend and evening work will be necessary.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $95,100. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
