Athletic Strength & Conditioning Assistant

This is a professional position responsible for participating in the development, implementation, and supervision of the strength and conditioning program for the athletics department. Responsible for assisting in the managerial and operational duties of the Murphy Wellness Center. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Sports Performance Director.
Participates in designing and instructing sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for preseason, in-season and off-season periods.
Assists with the management and operation of the Murphy Wellness Center, including but not limited to maintenance schedules and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student assistants.
Schedules strength and conditioning workouts for intercollegiate teams in the Murphy Wellness Center.
Works in conjunction with the sports medicine staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.

Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn, policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the conference and the
NCAA

Knowledge of strength development, speed and plyometric training, and nutrition.
Skill in using standard office equipment and software.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships with coaches, students, staff, and external constituents.
Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students.
Ability to obtain and maintain certified strength and conditioning specialist (
CSCS
) or strength and conditioning coach certification (
SCCC
).
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science or a related field is required.
One year of related experience is required. Certified strength and conditioning specialist (
CSCS
) as administered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (
NSCA
) and/or strength and conditioning coach certification (
SCCC
) through the Collegiate Strength Coaches Association (
CSCA
) is required prior to start date.
Experience in intercollegiate athletic strength and conditioning training is preferred.
This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to Computer and Network Security policy.
Commensurate with Experience
This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program (
ORP
), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (
TRS
) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
