The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists in the coordination and administration of all aspects of athletic healthcare.

Assist Head Athletic Trainer in the planning and coordination of Athletic Training Services, functions and programs.
Conduct an ongoing injury prevention program through conditioning, safety checks and formal and informal instruction of athletes with regard to injury prevention techniques.
Provide athletic training services to student athletes:
Identify, assess, and care for athletic injuries, including referral to physician and outside medical facilities as appropriate
Manage injuries and rehabilitation under physician’s direction as appropriate
Counsel athletes
Fit with and instruct in use of braces, crutches, and other special equipment
Prepare athletes for practices or contests by providing preventive taping, protection of previous injuries and giving special instructions for safety, etc.
Travel with athletic teams as deemed necessary by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Confer regularly with Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, coaches, and Team Physician to plan, coordinate and evaluate programs and activities.
Participate in a variety of athletic promotional, fundraising and student recruitment efforts.
Stay current with new developments in athletic training methods and technology.
Understand and comply with OSHA’s Bloodborn Pathogen Standard (29
CFR
1910.1030) and Chapter 8 of the University of New England Safety Manual.
Understand and comply with the University of New England Safety Manual.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field, National Athletic Trainers Association certification and membership and two to four years of relevant technical and administrative experience. Broad-based technical knowledge and skills related to athletic training and sports injuries.
Proficient with program planning, administrative and supervisory skills.
Excellent teaching and counseling skills.
Ability to deal effectively with student athletes, coaches, physicians, and others outside the University system to carry out athletic training functions.
