Job Description
This position manages the athletic insurance program, procedures for approved student-athlete medical expenses, travel and purchase accounts, organizes pre-participation physical exams, inventory/ordering and acting as the primary athletic trainer for a low-risk non-coverage/travel sport. This position requires the ability to work with the athletic training staff, strength and conditioning staff, sport coaches, athletic administration, team physicians, various departments across campus and offices within the immediate and outreach communities. Persons must possess the skills necessary to multi-task, complete tasks on time, and plan effective strategies to manage multiple projects.
This is a twelve-month position with full benefits. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8-5 but may include an occasional weekend or evening based upon preferred qualifications and role assigned. The work required is in-person and located in Stephenville, TX.
Responsibilities
Develop policies and responsible for evaluating secondary insurance companies, developing contracts and discounts and making recommendations to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Vice President of Athletics
Responsible for evaluating and developing service discounts with community and outreach medical offices
Develop departmental policies and responsible for implementing and communicating plan to Sports Medicine staff on processing student-athlete medical claims through the designated insurance coordinator and/or medical offices per the Texas A&M System and Tarleton State University
Manage, organize and communicate pre-participation physical exams schedule to team physicians, athletic training staff, MSAT faculty, student-athletes and coaches
New Employee Orientation and On-boarding
Review and evaluate electronic medical records system and make recommendations to Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
Develop policies and manage sports medicine operating budget, inventory and ordering of supplies, including apparel
Serve as the NCAA Drug Testing Liaison and work with Drug Free Sport International on the implementation, communication and organization of on-campus NCAA Drug Testing
Serve as the required NCAA designated institutional representative to Drug Free Sport International for nutritional supplements risk assessment on behalf of our student-athletes
Manage student-athlete medical files and properly dispose of medical records according to Texas A&M System and Tarleton State University policy
Manage purchase and travel card accounts-assist staff with procedures as needed
Schedule transportation and other staff needs for student-athlete medical appointments
Assist with coverage for practices and competition to help sports medicine staff at times throughout the year
Makes independent and appropriate decisions regarding therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy treatments and return to play
Must be able to make appropriate decision regarding the sports medicine emergency action plans and carry out plans for each athletic venue.
Prepared and maintains medical records, including but not limited to the documentation of injury reports, medical treatments, rehabilitation programs, medical referrals and other medical records
Provide transportation of student-athletes to medical appointments when sports medicine staff needs assistance
Responsible for the organization of athletic trainer summer camp schedule
Responsible for the organization and implementation of modality calibration
Communicates professionally and effectively across multiple populations including but not limited to, student-athletes, athletic training staff, athletic training students, team physicians, coaches, athletic administration, strength and conditioning staff, MSAT and Kinesiology faculty, other sports medicine umbrella practitioners and campus colleagues.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively in a team environment
Ability to carry out various administrative responsibilities needed to maintain operational procedures of a Division I Athletic Training Facility per Tarleton State Sports Medicine Guidelines
Supports the education of Tarleton State’s Master Athletic Training Students through their preceptor role
Maintains Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers and/or Texas Athletic Training Licensure; Maintains First-Aid, CPR and AED Certification
Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University and Tarleton State Athletics
Employs the standards, practices and procedures of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Western Athletic Conference and Texas Department of License and Regulation
Completes all Texas A&M System and Tarleton State University training requirements on time
Serves as a Campus Security Authority
Reports non-compliance incidents to their supervisor, manager and/or compliance officer
Requirements: Master’s Degree, Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers and/or Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer. If outside of Texas, candidates must be eligible for Texas State Licensure. Candidates must maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification. The ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and to drive personal, institutional and rental vehicles are required. All candidates should be able to lift and move medical equipment and supplies weighing up to 75-100 pounds.
Preferred Requirements: Experience with filing medical claims, supply inventory and ordering, operational scheduling and organization, travel expenses, and working as a collegiate athletic trainer.
Salary
Commensurate with experience
The target base annual salary is $43,620 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
