Description

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the development, coordination, evaluation, and delivering a system to provide health care to all students in the intercollegiate athletic program.

The Athletic Trainer, in consultation with the college physician, will develop and implement protocols for the delivery of healthcare to sick and injured student-athletes. This includes maintaining certification and accurate records for all athletic staff in AED, CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen training. The Athletic Trainer will coordinate, in collaboration with the Director of Women’s Health and the college physician, pre-participation physical examinations and screenings in compliance with NCAA regulations, as well as spring physicals for returning student-athletes prior to the end of the academic year. The Athletic Trainer will also evaluate all student-athlete injuries and illnesses.

The Athletic Trainer will ensure compliance with all regulations related to the care, maintenance, and upkeep of departmental AEDs, serve as the department liaison to the Office of Safety and Security, and communicate student-athlete participation status to athletic staff in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality of health records. Additionally, this role includes developing and updating sports medicine handbooks and materials, and coordinating with the Sports Information Director (SID) to ensure all appropriate sports medicine forms are available on the website.

The Athletic Trainer will refer injured or ill student-athletes to the college physician, health services, or other appropriate medical providers when necessary. They will provide treatment and rehabilitation for athletic injuries in accordance with established protocols or medical prescriptions, with severe injury rehabilitation outsourced as needed.
