Job Purpose
The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for assisting in the administration, direction, operation and coverage of a NCAA sports medicine department for 17 men's and women's intercollegiate athletic teams.
Essential Functions
Candidates will work in conjunction with the Wayne State University medical staff and coordinate with head coaches, strength and conditioning staff and team physicians in regard to effective preventive, treatment and rehabilitation programs for injured or ill student-athletes to instruct, detail, identify rehabilitative injuries and treatments. Candidate will instruct/work with student athletes in recommended preventive, treatment and rehabilitation programs where applicable.
Candidate will assist in the education of student-athletes, coaches and staff on all medical issues, on- going care and treatment, drug and alcohol education and testing and proper nutritional education, including information on supplements and medications.

Candidate will assist in the creation, maintenance and confidentiality of proper records, databases and information.
Candidate will assist in the operations and maintenance of all equipment and make recommendations regarding the purchase and usage of all supplies.
Candidate will assist in the review of all risk management issues.
Candidate will understand and comply with all NCAA, GLIAC, and University rules and regulations.
Candidate will assist in the instruction and supervision of graduate assistants and students and maintaining a working relationship with the Wayne State University Department of Kinesiology and School of Medicine and area physicians.
Additional and/or related duties as assigned.
WORK CONTEXT
Job Reports to: Vice President/AVP/Dean.
Customer Accountability: Interfaces with customers inside the S/C/D.
Freedom to Act: Subject to regular review by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree required.
Master's degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation or related field preferred.
Current National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Certification required.
Experience
At least two (2) years of previous athletic training experience at the collegiate or professional level required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE: A thorough knowledge of GLIAC, and University rules and regulations.
TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units.
