Position Introduction
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the development, coordination, evaluation, and delivering a system to provide health care to all students in the intercollegiate athletic program.
Job Description
The Athletic Trainer will developin consultation with the college physician, a set of protocols for the delivery of health care to sick and injured student-athletes, and certification and record keeping of all athletic staff members with AED, CPR, First Aid and Blood Born Pathogen Training. This position will coordinate, in consultation with the director of women’s health and college physician, physical examinations or screening in compliance with NCAA rules prior to participation in sport, coordinate a Spring physical exam and screening for returning student-athletes prior to end of school year, and evaluate all student-athlete injuries and illness.
The Athletic Trainer will followall compliance rules that relate to the care/maintenance and upkeep of all departmental AEDs, act as department liaison with office of safety and security, and communicate with members of the athletic staff in a timely manner regarding the participation status of sick and injured student-athletes in a manner that protects the confidential nature of the student’s health record. This position will develop and update sports medicine handbook/handouts, and coordinate with SID all appropriate sports medicine forms linked to web-site.
The Athletic Trainer will refer, to the college physician, health service, or other appropriate medical providers, injured and ill student-athletes, when medically necessary, treat all athletic injuries in accordance with pre-established protocols or specific prescriptions from medical providers, and rehabilitate all athletic injuries in accordance with pre-established protocols or specific prescriptions from medical providers. (We contract out severe injury rehabilitation.)
The Athletic Trainer will supervise, schedule and evaluate student trainers that are employed as student-workers, Sign, complete and monitor student trainer time cards, and develop and implement a budget requests suitable to meet the short and long-term needs of the sports medicine program. This position will operate the College’s sports medicine facilities in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines for similar health care facilities.
