Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer, under direction, prevents, cares and treats injuries to athletes using necessary knowledge of injury patterns and modern principle of athletic training. Collects samples for drug testing. Supervises and educates student athletic trainers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluates, treats and rehabilitates injuries of TAMU athletes. Taping, bracing and preparation of student athletes for practice and games (events) of assigned sports.
Provides attendance and supervision, for safety preventive and emergency care of student athletes, at practices and games (events) of assigned sports.
Travel, as directed and required, with assigned teams.
Charting and record keeping of student athlete injuries utilizing current record keeping systems and protocols.
Coordination and consultation with Physicians, and student athletes and medical facilities regarding health care.
Consultation with coaches and parents regarding student athlete health care.
Assists in supervision of student athletic trainer apprenticeship education and sport scheduling.
Maintains professional licenses and certifications.
Assists in maintenance and supervision of athletic training room, equipment and supply inventory.

Additional Responsibilities
Assist to propagate a comprehensive public relations program.
Ensure NCAA compliance.
Assist with the operations of respective sports camps or clinics.
Assist in development of the strength and conditioning programs for varsity intercollegiate programs that includes cardiovascular demands by sports, flexibility/stretching program, etc.
Provide direct instruction to assigned student-athletes with guidance from Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, as well as providing assessment and documentation tools, in order to assure proper explanation of training techniques.
Assist in coordinating schedules between coaches and facility availability.
Conduct orientation sessions to demonstrate modalities of physical training and motivate student-athletes to reach their potential with guidance from Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Support education for student-athletes about nutrition and supplementation. Emphasis will be placed on implementation, supervision and teaching progressions for: resistance training, cardiovascular, speed, plyometric, flexibility and functional movement; as well as maintain accurate electronic records for each team and student-athletes to monitor progress.
Assist with department fund-raising events.
Responsible for maintaining current certification(s)/licensure(s) required as a condition of employment and providing valid and legitimate proof of certification(s)/licensure(s) to the supervisor prior to the expiration date(s) of certification(s)/licensure(s).
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education – Bachelor’s degree.
Experience – One year full-time experience or three years part-time experience as a student trainer.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
General knowledge of rules.
Drug testing procedures.
Ability to:
Comprehend oral and written instructions.
Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Medical & First Aid skills including joint taping and physical therapy skills.
Licensing / Professional Certification – Must be able to obtain State of Texas License to practice Athletic Training within six months of employment.
Preferred Licensing / Professional Certification – A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certification from National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certificate (SCCC) from Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA).

Salary: $43,909.08/annually
