Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Athletic Trainer will be responsible for overall administration of department athletic training functions, overall student-athlete wellbeing, and athletic training facility management. The role is critical to the support of FIT's Institutional Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on creating an empowering student experience.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

• Responsible for administration and oversight of all Athletic Training services and facilities.
• Ensure that FIT Athletic Training services and facilities operate within the framework of NJCAA, NE District, Region 15, FIT, FIT Health Services and HIPAA policies / regulations
• Ensure department-wide compliance with all applicable Athletic Training policies and best practices, train department staff and coaches on industry best practices.
• Promote health and physical wellbeing of student-athletes and recreation participants by providing Athletic Training services including not limited to: first aid treatment, injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, reconditioning and baseline concussion testing.
• Provide Athletic Training coverage for athletic contests, practices and recreational activities as assigned.
• Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, braces, and equipment, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury.
• Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer student-athletes and recreation participants to external emergency or urgent care facilities when necessary.
• Work closely with FIT Health Services on internal treatment plans, external referrals and return to participation for student-athletes and recreation participants.
• Serve as a liaison for student-athletes between physicians, coaches and other health care providers as needed and within all applicable guidelines.
• Provide coaching staff with daily updates on return to play progress for all injured student-athletes and recreation participants undergoing treatment; ensure that coaching staff understand and follow directives on when student-athletes are deemed physically able to engage in progressive / limited return to participation activities or full participation without restrictions.
• Coordinate transportation and/or referral to the appropriate medical facilities for emergency and non-emergency student-athlete and recreation participant care.
• Educate athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse.
• Collaborate with coaching staff in developing conditioning, weight training, and nutrition programs for student-athletes.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with CPR, AED, and First Aid certification of all coaches, fitness instructors and fitness center employees.
• Develop written policies, procedures and forms for key Athletic Training functions including but not limited to: rules of use for the athletic training facility and equipment, emergency action plans for each practice and competition location; review / update all policies, procedures, student-athlete pre-participation questionnaire, medical forms and athletic training document templates on an annual basis.
• Collect and review pre-participation physicals, medical questionnaires, and any other pertinent medical documents on all student-athletes; maintain and update all student-athlete medical paperwork, internal and external treatment progress notes, and referrals in the FIT Health Services PyraMED system.
• Collect and maintain student-athlete contact, emergency contact, and consent forms.
• Supervise daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training facility.
• Advise Athletic Director of anticipated facility, equipment or enhanced service needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health, Human Performance or related field required.
• One year of direct clinical experience as a National Athletic Trainers' Association BOC Athletic Trainer.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in appropriate area as outlined above.
• Three years of professional Athletic Training experience in Higher Education Athletics.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• National Athletic Trainers' Association BOC certification in good standing, or ability to obtain prior to the time of appointment.
• New York State Athletic Training License in good standing, or ability to obtain prior to the time of appointment.
• American Heart Association or Red Cross CPR / AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain prior to the time of appointment.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Ability to work long periods under conditions requiring moderate physical demands.
• Ability to tolerate working in outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions, and acquire new skills necessary to achieve challenging tasks
• Keen attention to detail; outstanding managerial, organizational, time management, technological, and verbal/written communication skills.
• Genuine interest and satisfaction in working with students, faculty, and staff, especially in the area of holistic health and wellness.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Availability to travel on overnight trips and work evening and weekend hours as needed.
• Valid driver's license in good standing.

Additional Information:

Salary

$72,324 - $80,409 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: Full-time 35 hoursper week. Work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.Most weeks will require some weekday evening and weekend hours.
