Job Description

Under healthcare direction of the Medical Director/Head Team Physician and administrative direction of the Director of Athletics at Lake Superior State University, the Licensed Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare for our varsity athletic programs. The Athletic Trainer will be involved in both the clinical and healthcare administration areas related to patient care. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for all athletic training duties for Men’s Division I Ice Hockey and additional assigned student-athletes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate pre-participation, annual and exit physical exams

  • In collaboration with Sports Performance professionals, develop and implement injury prevention strategies

  • In collaboration with campus health services and team physicians, develop and implement student athlete health and performance enhancement education

  • Evaluate and treat injuries at practices and competitions

  • Design and implement rehabilitation programs

  • Coordinate pre-practice/game preparation of teams

  • Revise and implement emergency action plans

  • Maintain and communicate injury/availability reports

  • Prepare insurance claims

  • Perform duties in cooperation with the University's medical director and team physician(s)

  • Responsible for all medical equipment and protective equipment

  • Includes travel with Men’s D1 Ice Hockey and other teams as coordinated with the Athletics Director

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining departmental policies including student-athlete well-being
