The Academic Advisor is the primary point of contact for UT Dallas student-athletes for academic support. The Academic Advisor reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and is responsible for meeting with prospective student-athletes, enrolling student-athletes, and monitoring student-athlete academic status while coordinating with professors with student-athletes in their classes in regard to game, practice and travel schedules. Will work closely with the Faculty Athletics Representative (
FAR
).
Preferred Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; and 1-2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents, or related experience determined by Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. Commitment to
NCAA
Division II rules OR master’s degree; 3-5 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents, or related experience determined by Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Monitor student-athlete success and progress through academic reporting, distributing reports to coaches and compliance officer
Advise, monitor and track all student-athlete academic progress
Assist student-athletes in the enrollment process, working closely with each school’s academic advisors, serving as liaison to
UTD
schools
Meet with incoming student-athletes to discuss academic support during collegiate career
Communicate with student-athletes and professors in regard to missed classes and coordinating make-up work/tests
Work in conjunction with Academic Success Center to assist student-athletes with academic assistance as needed
Coordinate, plan and lead professional career days/presentations for student-athletes
Certify and evaluate grades for eligibility purposes
Assist in coaching staff, athletic administrative staff and student-athlete rule education
Reconcile issues involving the student-athlete experience
Administer and review student-athlete surveys
Serve as liaison between the athletic department and academic offices, including registrar, financial aid and advising
Serve on appropriate committees as an athletic representative
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
Employee agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics as set forth by the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas System. Has knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and be able to learn and use institutional software systems (i.e. Teamwork Compliance). Complies with all State and University policies.
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas
driver’s
license with an acceptable driving record at the time of hire.
Remote Work Notice:
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the
DFW
Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
